Municipal Job Opportunity - Part-time Crossing Guards

Additional Crossing Guards are needed to finish out the school year and for special events/workloads. $20.00 per hour

Responsibilities:
Places caution signs at designated points before going on duty and removes signs at end of shift.
Verbally direct children and pedestrians across the street.
Ensure children and pedestrians are using the crosswalk by standing in roadway continuously raising STOP paddle.
Determine appropriate times to step into traffic creating gaps.
Ability to recognize and communicate potentially dangerous traffic situations and hazards in the environment.
Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and reports infractions to police.
Stops speeding vehicles and warns drivers.
Handles a variety of emergencies such as accidents.

Essential Requirements:
High school diploma required, or equivalent education.
Must be available / dependable to fill in to cover absences, special events and additional shifts.
Shifts: varied / flexible hours 6:30 am to 8:30 am and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, plus special events.
Ability to regulate flow of traffic at peak school hours promptly, tactfully and impartially.
Ability to maintain discipline with school children.
Training, uniforms and equipment provided.
Possess strong verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills in dealing courteously and tactfully with the public required.
Must meet the physical demands of the position to stand for long periods of time and; ability to work in all weather conditions.
Must pass a police background investigation and standard pre-employment physical.
Must have a valid New Jersey driver’s license free from motor vehicle convictions for the last three (3) years.
Secaucus resident given first preference.
