5/8 Update on Secaucus' Coronavirus Statistics

By Staff Writer, Posted 05-08-2020
For weeks now, we have been reporting that the curve representing Secaucus' Coronavirus cases have yet to level out. Even when the statistics for state-wide cases were improving, it seemed as though Secaucus' rate of infection was remaining the same. Well, with this latest week of data, the town of Secaucus finally seems to be experiencing a decrease in the spread of the virus as well. As seen in the graph below, the slope of the curve has finally begun to level off during this past week. (Click on any of the data points in the graph to see specific details.)

Over the course of the last seven days, the number of Coronavirus cases in Secaucus went up from 436 to 494. While that's still an increase of 13.3%, it's a huge improvement over last week's rate of increase at 24.2%. Plus, there has been no new cases of COVID-19 related deaths over the last week. So the rate of fatalities have dropped down to zero. On May 2, Governor Phil Murphy reopened parks and golf courses since state-wide cases were on the decline. (He later declared, however, that schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year). Although there are no golf courses in Secaucus, the town is home to numerous parks and nature preserves. Hopefully, these lessened restrictions won't cause Secaucus' statistics to go back up now that we finally see light at the end of the tunnel.
