On August 7, 2026, Millburn Police Officer Kelley responded to Bagel-4-You following a report
of an employee’s E-bike being stolen. The Millburn Police Detective Bureau conducted a
thorough investigation and identified the suspect responsible for the theft. A search warrant was
subsequently obtained, and the stolen E-bike was recovered from the suspect’s apartment. John
Niotis, age 41, of Springfield, was arrested and charged with the theft of the E-bike.
On August 8, 2026, Millburn Police Officer Genitempo located a Toyota Corolla that had
crashed into and became pinned against the guardrail on Route 124. The driver was found
slumped over the steering wheel and unresponsive. Officer Genitempo broke the vehicle’s
window, and Millburn Police officers pulled the driver out of the vehicle and immediately began
providing medical assistance. The driver was subsequently transported to a local hospital for
treatment. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of three bundles of suspected heroin, a
hypodermic needle, and approximately 20 unidentified pills contained in a plastic bag. The
driver, Lauren Roby, age 40, of Landing, NJ, was arrested and charged with DWI, possession of
a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On August 9, 2026, Millburn Police Officer Matos conducted a motor vehicle stop of a Jeep
Grand Cherokee on Route 124 for multiple motor vehicle violations. During the investigation,
Officer Matos observed another New Jersey license plate in plain view inside the trunk of the
vehicle. A check of the license plate revealed that it had been reported stolen out of Paterson on
July 17, 2026. The driver, Danny Acerocaiza, age 25, of Newark, was arrested and charged with
receiving stolen property.
On August 10, 2026, Millburn Police Sergeant Royce conducted a motor vehicle stop of a Honda
Accord on Route 24 East for expired registration. During the investigation, the Essex County
Sheriff’s Office responded with narcotics and explosive-detection K-9s. Both K-9s alerted to the
presence of narcotics and explosives within the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle
resulted in the recovery of a 9mm handgun loaded with 10 rounds. The firearm was located
inside a black fanny pack on the passenger-side floor. The driver, Khalif Hinton, age 26, of
Livingston, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. He was
subsequently transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
On August 17, 2026, Millburn Police Officer Griffin conducted a motor vehicle stop of a BMW
X6 on Millburn Avenue for a motor vehicle violation. During the investigation, Officer Griffin
observed that a passenger was not wearing a seat belt and asked him to provide identification. A
records check revealed that the passenger, Douglas Oakley, had an active arrest warrant out of
Pennsylvania.
Oakley was taken into custody, and a search incident to arrest resulted in the recovery of brass
knuckles, a fraudulent identification card bearing Oakley’s photograph, and various documents
containing names and fraudulent account numbers. Oakley was charged with unlawful
possession of a weapon, forgery, and identity theft. He was subsequently transported to the Essex
County Correctional Facility.
On August 19, 2026, Millburn Police Officer Beyer conducted a motor vehicle stop of a Honda
Accord on Fineran Way for a motor vehicle violation. A records check of the driver revealed an
active warrant out of Montclair, NJ, for an assault and unlawful possession of a knife. The driver,
Abijahn Johnson, age 40, of Newark, was placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle resulted in
the recovery of a large katana-style sword and two black metal daggers. Johnson was charged on
the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with possession of dangerous knives and
possession of weapons by a certain person prohibited from possessing weapons. Johnson, a
convicted felon, was subsequently remanded to the Essex County Jail.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty
plea or are found guilty in a court of law.
