In May 2020, the Secaucus Police Department received complaints of drug dealing in the “North End” section of the town. Detectives from the Secaucus Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit conducted surveillance of the area and following a two-month long investigation, two men were arrested in the case.

On July 13, 2020 at 9:06 P.M., the Anti-Ctime observed Jihad Shabazz and Steven Rojas in the area of Route 3 East. During the lawful stop and search of Shabazz’s vehicle, detectives seized seventy-nine (79) vials of suspected crack cocaine and a small quantity of suspected heroin.

Jihad Shabazz, 23 of West New York and Steven Rojas, 19 of Jersey City were both arrested. At the time of their arrest a small amount of US Currency was seized, which was believed to be proceeds from a nefarious source. Steven Rojas was also found with an additional five (5) vials of suspected crack cocaine on his person.

Jihad Shabazz and Steven Rojas were each charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine [2C:35-5b(2)], Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine within 500 feet of a Park [2C:35-7.1] and two (2) counts of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance [2C:35-10a(1)]. Jihad Shabazz and Steven Rojas were lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

“Resident complaints are a priority for the Secaucus Police Department. These arrests are a direct result of the partnership between the public and the police,” Chief Dennis Miller said.
