Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information regarding a death investigation that occurred at a residence on Lake Avenue in Lyndhurst, NJ, on Thursday, April 16, 2026. This investigation was conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and in coordination with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at approximately 5:33 a.m., the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lyndhurst Police Department attempted to effect the arrest of 38-year-old BRENDAN R. TRIVISONNO in front of his residence in Lyndhurst, NJ, on charges stemming from a homicide investigation in Union County, NJ. During the execution of the arrest warrant, TRIVISONNO fled from law enforcement and barricaded himself inside of the residence. The Bergen County Regional SWAT Team was notified and responded to the scene. As members of law enforcement attempted to negotiate with him from outside of the residence, TRIVISONNO, who was alone in the house, fired a gun and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Bergen County Regional SWAT team made entry and located TRIVISONNO inside the residence. HMH Hackensack University Medical Center Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) was already on scene and immediately attempted life saving measures, but TRIVISONNO was pronounced deceased.
After reviewing the initial facts of the incident, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office notified the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General. The Attorney General’s Office subsequently designated the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office to lead the investigation. Accordingly, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the death of BRENDAN R. TRIVISONNO. The investigation has confirmed that TRIVISONNO sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
