Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 49-year-old SHAWN M. LEE of Closter, NJ on the charge of aggravated assault stemming from an incident that occurred in Palisades Park, NJ. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Palisades Park Police Department, under the direction of Chief George Beck.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at approximately 9:38 p.m., the Palisades Park Police Department responded to a private residence to investigate a 9-1-1 hang-up call. Upon arrival, officers learned that an assault had taken place earlier that same day in Palisades Park. Subsequently, the Palisades Park Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and a joint investigation was initiated. The investigation revealed that SHAWN M. LEE was involved in a physical altercation with an adult victim. Specifically, the investigation determined that LEE wrapped both of his hands around the neck and jaw of the victim during a dispute in Palisades Park.

As a result of the investigation, on Friday, April 17, 2026, SHAWN M. LEE was arrested by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Closter, NJ and charged with third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(7). LEE was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank and recognize the Palisades Park Police Department and the Closter Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
