Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the filing of charges against 41-year-old ROGELIO B. CERDAVERA, formerly of Paterson, NJ, following a series of residential break-ins in both Bergen County and Morris County, NJ. The charges are the result of a lengthy investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer; the Saddle River Police Department, under the direction of Chief Jason Cosgriff; and the Upper Saddle River Police Department, under the direction of Chief Patrick Rotella.
On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers from the Saddle River Police Department responded to a burglar alarm at a residence on Burning Hollow Road in Saddle River. Upon arrival, they discovered a rear door had been smashed in an apparent attempt to burglarize the residence. Additional responding officers from the Allendale Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department, Upper Saddle River Police Department, and the Waldwick Police Department also arrived to assist with searching for multiple suspects who fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers from the Montville Police Department in Morris County responded to a burglary and theft at a residence on Brookwood Road in Towaco, NJ. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the rear glass door had been smashed and a bedroom had been ransacked. The homeowner reported a loss of stolen property totaling over $75,000.00.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers from the Cresskill Police Department responded to a burglary at a residence on Vaccaro Drive in Cresskill. Responding officers determined that the rear door to the residence had been smashed and a bedroom had been ransacked, though nothing was reported stolen.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad, the Cresskill Police Department, the Montville Police Department, the Saddle River Police Department, and the Upper Saddle River Police Department worked collaboratively and identified these events as part of a burglary pattern. The nearly two-year investigation identified ROGELIO B. CERDAVERA as one of the suspects involved in all three incidents.
On March 31, 2026, ROGELIO B. CERDAVERA was charged with second-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a; second-degree burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2.2; third-degree burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1); and third-degree attempted burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1)/18-2a(1).
ROGELIO B. CERDAVERA was last known to reside in Paterson, NJ. However, as of this date, attempts to locate and arrest him have been unsuccessful. His current whereabouts are unknown and he remains a fugitive from justice. Additionally, the investigation revealed that several other unidentified suspects were involved in these burglaries.
