Join Freedy Johnstonfor another intimate evening of music, and conversation with recording artist, performer, producer, and author, Richard Barone at Tunes Hoboken, 225 Washington St.. Tuesday Night Live takes place in a different location each week. Check back weekly to see where Freedy will be performing next.
Seating is limited, so sign up early. We’ll be passing the hat, and artist’s recording will be for sale. Doors open at 7:30pm. Please arrive by 7:50pm. Show is from 8pm to 9pm. BYOB.
Freedy Johnson is a singer-songwriter, Originally from Kansas, a town 1,561 miles from both New York and San Fransisco. He moved to New York in the 1980’s, and worked as an office temp for a few years before landing a deal with Bar None Records in Hoboken. His second record for them in 1992 was his breakthrough album "Can You Fly". He then signed to Elektra Records, and in 1994 worked with producer ButchVigon the record "This Perfect World," which featured the radio hit “Bad Reputation,” and earned him Rolling Stones’s Songwriter of the Year award for 1994. His songs were featured in the movies “Kingpin,” “Kicking and Screaming”, and “Heavy.” His most recent album is On the Road to You, released in 2022 on 40 Below Records. He now lives in New Jersey

Richard Barone is a recording artist, performer, producer, and author. Since pioneering the indie rock scene in Hoboken, NJ as frontman of The Bongos and helping to launch the chamber pop movement with his solo debut “cool blue halo”, Barone has produced numerous studio recordings and worked with artists in every musical genre. His list of collaborators includes producer Tony Visconti, Donovan, Lou Reed, and folk legend Pete Seeger. He has scored shows and staged all-star concert events at such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and SummerStage in Central Park. His memoir Frontman: Surviving The Rock Star Myth was published by Backbeat Books. His album Sorrows & Promises and his latest book, Music + Revolution (Bloomsbury), are celebrations of the 1960s music scene in Greenwich Village NYC, where Barone lives. He teaches the course “Music + Revolution” at The New School’s School of Jazz & Contemporary Music, has served on the Board of Governors of The Recording Academy (GRAMMYs), serves on the Advisory Board of Anthology Film Archives, and hosts Folk Radio on WBAI New York.
