Victor M. Lopez Jr. Aka Young Emeljay, alongside his team and his organization What Hoboken Sounds Like, together with the newly expanded What Jersey City Sounds Like, proudly presents the 3rd Annual Summer Blockfest: Hip-Hop Festival & Community Celebration — happening Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 770 Jackson Street in Hoboken, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Rain Date: Saturday, August 9th).
Now in its third year, Summer Blockfest has evolved into one of Hoboken’s most anticipated grassroots festivals—a powerful, day-long celebration of Hip-Hop culture, community pride, and creative expression. What began as a bold local initiative has grown into a recognized cultural movement across Hudson County, connecting two cities through sound, style, and spirit.
The past two editions of Summer Blockfest transformed Hoboken’s Southwest neighborhood into a thriving hub of live Hip-Hop and R&B music, art, fashion, and youth empowerment. The event has captured the attention of major media outlets such as The Jersey Journal, TapInto Hoboken, Hoboken Girl(nominated for Best Community Event in 2023), Hip Hop Since 1978, and The Pulse With Peter B, firmly establishing itself as a cultural moment that resonates far beyond city lines.
In October 2024, founder Victor M. Lopez Jr. received an official proclamation from the City of Hoboken, honoring the creation of What Hoboken Sounds Like and the launch of groundbreaking platforms like Summer Blockfest—the city’s first-ever Hip-Hop festival. This recognition stands as a testament to the festival’s deep-rooted impact and Victor’s unwavering commitment to amplifying local voices and stories.
This year’s Blockfest promises to be bigger and better than ever, with an exciting lineup of live performances, DJ sets, and an expanded marketplace of community-driven offerings. Attendees can expect food trucks and local vendors, streetwear and urban fashion brands, sneakers and custom gear, art and creative merchandise, vinyl and rare music finds, beauty, skincare, grooming essentials, plus a wide array of local entrepreneurs and community resources.
As part of the day’s commitment to giving back, there will also be a limited Book Bag Give-Away—available to children on a first-come, first-served basis (one book bag per child; child must be present).
With the strength of What Hoboken Sounds Like and What Jersey City Sounds Likecombined, the 2025 Summer Blockfest is gearing up to deliver its most dynamic and unforgettable edition yet—bringing more music, more community, and more reasons to celebrate everything that makes Hudson County thrive.
Join us Sunday, August 3rd (Rain Date: Saturday, August 9th) at 770 Jackson Street in Hoboken for a powerful day of Hip-Hop, culture, and community at the 3rd Annual Summer Blockfest!
