SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Superintendent of DPW the purpose of this position is to
serve the passengers in an efficient, polite, and professional manner. Transport passengers and
senior citizens as assigned, established routes on a prescribed schedule. This employee will drive,
clean, maintain, and perform minor repairs to the vehicle being used to transport on a prescribed
route. Responsible for checking the vehicle for operating safety, assisting passengers off and onto
the bus when necessary and prepares reports of the operations of the vehicle as may be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Ability to safely navigate a midsize bus or medical escort vehicle.
- Drives transportation vehicle to and from established routes and stops or on special trips.
- Picks up and discharge passengers,
- Manages a planned schedule with minimal exception without interruption to passengers.
- Assists passengers on and off vehicle.
- Maintains two-way radio and communicates problems to program coordinator.
- Maintains vehicle in a clean and good operating condition, performs minor repairs and call
for fleet maintenance for other repairs and parts if necessary.
- Checks vehicle for safety.
- Prepares reports on the operation of vehicle.
- Records and maintains record of fares and cash receipts and disbursements.
- Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English. Exhibits a high
standard for performance, attendance, and teamwork.
- Must have a valid New Jersey driver's license free from any convictions for the last three (3)
years with CDL passenger endorsement required.
- Ability to analyze problems involved in the operation of buses; to understand, remember
and carry out oral and written directions; to learn quickly from explanations and
demonstrations; to drive in a skilled and safe manner; to check, clean, service and make
minor and emergency repairs to buses.
- Accurately maintain and organize necessary records.
- Must have strong customer service with good interpersonal skills in dealing courteously and
tactfully with the special needs of passenger and senior citizens.
- Must pass DOT screening (including drug test), pre-employment screening, as well as various
random drug screenings throughout the year required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger,

required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to l O pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to
25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by
this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
the ability to adjust focus.

The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to
fumes of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
