Bayonne Teacher Charged After Altercation on School Property

On Friday, March 1, 2024, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Bayonne High School teacher following an incident that occurred on school property on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Joseph Mingoia, 68, of Bayonne, is charged with Endangering the Welfare of Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2), a crime of the second degree, and Simple Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a(1), a disorderly persons offense. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2024.

The investigation found that on Monday, January 22, 2024, two students were involved in an altercation on school property. After multiple staff members intervened, Mingoia struck a female juvenile in the head with a closed hand. Mingoia has been on administrative leave since the incident occurred.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit and the Bayonne Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
