News Update from the Mayor

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

This Sunday the Tenafly Welcome! Committee and the Nature Center are hosting an afternoon for new residents of the past year from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Nature Center. Lunch and dessert will be served and a private tour will be given. This will be a wonderful opportunity for adults and children to see why Tenafly is so special.

Next Friday, April 19 at 1 pm, local author Susan Terman will host a discussion at the Senior Center of her new book, A Holocaust Family Memoir recounting the lives and journey of the author's Holocaust survivor parent's. These are stories that are retold through plainspoken, stark, beautifully composed poetry.

Tenafly is hosting its annual town-wide Trash-a-Thon on Sunday, April 28 from 1 to 4 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend as we clean up our community and raise donations for the Nature Center. Volunteer to collect litter or sponsor a volunteer. Register at tenaflynaturecenter.org

April is Earth Month and the Nature Center has activities for people of all ages. This Saturday individuals 13 and up can join in for an instructional photo-session with the education raptors housed at TNC!

On Saturday and Sunday families with children 4 and up can sign up for a seasonal scavenger hunt where they independently solve nature riddles along Nature Center trails.

On Sunday at the Nature Center guests of all ages can meet the author, Jane Aguilar Murphy, of Hi, My Name is Skye, a child friendly book about Skye the Bald Eagle as he navigates the skies, learning what it truly means to be a magnificent bald eagle.

Save the date: The Tenafly Spring Fling is May 4th! A spring event for the whole family to enjoy! A day of food, fun, games, art and more.

The Garden Clubs’ Annual Mother’s Day plant sale is Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm rain or shine at two locations, the Greenhouse at Davis Johnson Park and Oresko Memorial Green. The sale includes flowering annuals in pots of varying sizes, hanging planters and flats.

Registration is open for Recreation’s Counselor In Training Program for those interested in training with Recky’s Summer Camp Staff to gain experience and skills. Visit the Borough website under Parks & Recreation for details and register on Community Pass.
