News Update from the Mayor

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.
The Police Department is investigating 4 home break-ins in the month of October. One of the burglaries was for home contents and valuables, while the last three appear to be for car fobs and cars. Immediately call the Tenafly Police Department at 201-568-5100 or 911 if you suspect suspicious activity or a crime in progress near your home or neighborhood. Do not hesitate. The Police are focused on this problem, and patrols have been stepped up.
We have called a special Council Meeting for Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 pm at Borough Hall at which time the Police Chief will discuss what is occurring and what to do to help prevent these types of crimes.
An online survey is being conducted to gauge demand for the Tenakill Pool continuing as a municipal pool. Please visit the Borough website to voice your opinion and participate in the survey (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeUqhvrc6_XWDP8DBWQYfFD9qt9fDfT7QAy-urEpXsodxlV3A/viewform).
Tomorrow, Saturday, start your day at the Senior Center for the Annual Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale from 9 am to Noon. You are invited to bring your family, wear a Halloween costume and enjoy fall crafts, face painting and a balloon artist.
This Saturday, October 26 at 4 pm is the celebration of Korean Hanbok Day at the Tenafly Middle School. Event highlights include a Hanbok fashion show, traditional Korean instrumentals, and dance performances. Hosted by the Asian American Youth Council.
At the Presbyterian Church it is Mommy Daddy & Me, Saturdays from 10 am to 11:30 am. Ages 5 and under welcome with caregiver. Then on Sunday, October 27 at 4:30 pm in the Old Stone Chapel experience music for piano performed by Music Director Jim Millar of works by Haydn, Berg, Granadas and Chopin. Free entry.
Space is still available for the Nature Center's Haunted Forest this Sunday, October 27 with tours departing every 15 minutes starting at 1 pm. This seasonal activity is fun for the whole family and not scary. This year's tours are all about appreciating our amazing local wildlife. The St. Thomas Armenian Church is hosting a food festival indoors on Sunday, October 27 from Noon to 7:00 pm. There will be plenty of delicious foods, baked goods, refreshments and much more. Entertainment for the children includes a Clown, Magic Show, Face Painting, Cotton Candy, Balloons, and more. Admission is free and there is plenty of parking.
The Tenafly Rotary is hosting a joint fun "game night" afternoon with Brightview and the Senior Center on Monday, October 28 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. No registration is required, just come to Brightview at 55 Hudson Avenue and join in the fun.
This coming Tuesday, October 29 at 7 pm in Huyler Park is the Lighting of the First Diya Ceremony marking the official start of Diwali in our community, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. We will gather together to light the first Diya, sharing the spirit of unity and celebration.
The Community Chest Fall Celebration is Tuesday, October 29 at the Englewood Field Club, featuring Shake, Rattle and Roll Dueling Pianos. Thursday, November 14 at 6 pm is the “Sports Night of Champions” bringing together athletic icons, local legends, and the members of our community to celebrate their impact in the world of sports: not only in New Jersey, but around the globe. Since the founding of the Kurtz Family New Jersey Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, the event has also featured the induction ceremony of three classes of prominent leaders and athletic standouts with a connection to the state.
