Queens, NY Man Charged With Kidnapping, Sexual Assault

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the arrest of 37-year-old MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA of Queens, NY on charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, witness tampering, criminal restraint, terroristic threats, and contempt of court. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.

On Monday, October 21, 2024, the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of an adult that began in August 2024. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA kidnapped and sexually assaulted an adult in Englewood, NJ and Queens, NY on multiple occasions, as well as threatened to kill the victim.

As a result of the investigation, on Monday, October 21, 2024, MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA was charged with first-degree kidnapping, N.J.S.A. 2C:13-1b(1); second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1); second-degree witness tampering, N.J.S.A. 2C:28-5a(1); third-degree criminal restraint, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3a; and two counts of third-degree contempt of court, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-9a(1)/ N.J.S.A. 2C:29-9b(1). On Thursday, October 24, 2024, CHIMBO-ORELLANA was located and arrested in Englewood, NJ by detectives from the Special Victims Unit and the Englewood Police Department. CHIMBO-ORELLANA was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Englewood Police Department, New York City Police Department (“NYPD”), NYPD 103rd Precinct Detective Squad, and NYPD Queens Borough Warrant Squad for their assistance in this investigation.
