Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 63-year-old JAMES T. REILLY of Edgewater, NJ, on charges of distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of JAMES T. REILLY during the course of an Internet child sexual abuse material investigation. The investigation revealed that REILLY used the Internet to view, download, possess, distribute, and share items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent children.

As a result of the investigation, JAMES T. REILLY was arrested on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Paramus, NJ and charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(a)(i); and third-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)(iii). REILLY was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Edgewater Police Department and New York City Police Department for their assistance, as well as the Norwood, Waldwick, and Washington Township Police Departments, which participate in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.
