Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the launch of the Alliance for
Individuals with Disabilities (“A.I.D.”) registry (formerly known as the Special Needs Registry)
in Passaic County.
The “National Public Safety Alliance for Individuals with Disabilities” (A.I.D) is a no cost,
voluntary service that is open to all persons with a disability who live, work, play or attend
school in the United States. The A.I.D collaborative was created to help police officers to assist
our residents who may need extra assistance in the event of an emergency by making sure that
those first on the scene have vital information at their fingertips regarding a member’s specific
physical or mental impairment, emergency contact information, physical description, current
photograph and any known calming method.
An individual can join by themselves, or they can be registered by a caretaker, family member or
loved one. If someone registers an adult other than themselves, they must have that person’s
permission or be the legal guardian of the individual they are submitting. Registration is easily
accomplished by directing users to www.pcponj.org and then clicking on the “Community” tab
for further information.
If an individual wishes to register for A.I.D and does not have a computer, smart phone, or tablet,
that individual can also join by visiting their local police department and/or the Passaic County
Prosecutor’s Office located at 401 Grand St. Paterson, NJ 07505. A designated A.I.D Liaison
will then assist the applicant with completing the application process.
The A.I.D Liaison for the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is Lt. Maria Tejada who can be
reached at 973-837-7721 or mtejada@passaiccountynj.org. For media inquiries regarding the
A.I.D Registry, contact Senior Assistant Prosecutor Shane Overgaard of the Passaic County
Prosecutor’s Office at sovergaard@passaiccountynj.org or at (973) 881-4869.
