1. On April 11, 2025, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Police Officer Brian Kim responded to
Hoboken Police Headquarters to process the arrest of 27-year-old Zachary Nemiri of Bayonne,
who was brought in by Rahway Police Officers on three warrants out of Hoboken, all for driving
with a suspended license. Bail was posted and Nemiri was released with a new court date.
2. On April 11, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Police Officers Trevor Thomas and Ronald
Kibitlewski responded to the 1200 block of Hudson Street on reports of a combative man
outside. The Hoboken Fire Department was also on the scene, due to a fire alarm activation. It
was learned that an individual, later identified as 72-year-old Harold Whalen of Hoboken, pulled
the fire alarm after being locked out of his apartment. Whalen was arrested and charged with
false public alarm. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing, and it
was discovered he had two outstanding warrants out of Hoboken; one for making terroristic
threats and a second for disorderly house. He was ultimately transported to the Hudson County
Correctional Facility.
3. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Police Officers Marvin DeJesus and Brian
Kim were on Newark Street when they saw a man, later identified as 30-year-old Carlos Mejia of
Seacaucus, stumbling as he walked toward a vehicle. When he got to the car, Mejia had trouble
grabbing the door handle and opening the door. When he started the car, the officers approached
Mejia and asked him to step out of the car. Police Officer Kyle Seper arrived on the scene to
conduct a field sobriety test, after which Mejia was placed under arrest for driving while
intoxicated. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and issued summonses for
driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. As per John’s Law, he was released into the
custody of a responsible party.
4. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 5:40 a.m., Police Officers Ronald Kibitlewski and Frank
Losurdo were near the intersection of Jackson and Third Streets when they observed a vehicle
drive by with the front left fender damaged. The vehicle veered into a bicycle lane and then
failed to come to a complete stop at two stop signs. Officers also observed the driver using both
the brake and gas pedal at the same time before the vehicle was parked in a non-valid spot while
still partially in the roadway. When it pulled out of the spot a few minutes later, the car nearly hit
a parked car. Officers pulled the vehicle over on Fifth Street, and the driver, later identified as
33-year-old Samantha Burke of Jersey City, got out and started yelling at the officers. She
refused to follow their commands to get back in the car, and as they approached, she began to
run. A foot pursuit ensued, during which Burke reached into her pocket for a metallic option,
which was later discovered to be a knife. The knife fell onto the ground and officers were able to
stop Burke on the 500 block of Monroe Street. She was placed under arrest and a search incident
to arrest located a piece of plastic tube that contained a wax fold. Burke continued to ignore
officers' directives and was observed to have slurred speech. Sgt. Michael Losurdo and Police
Officers Carmen Benitez and Brandon Cappelluti arrived on the scene. Based on officer
observations, she was charged with driving while intoxicated. Sgt. Losurdo saw a bag containing
possible CDS in plain sight inside the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle located a bag with
a white pill, suspected to be unprescribed Xanax and seven green capsules containing a white
colored substance, suspected to be CDS crack cocaine. Burke was transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters and charged with distribution of CDS within 500 feet of public housing, possession
of CDS crack cocaine, distribution of suspected CDS crack cocaine, distribution of CDS within
1,000 feet of a school, eluding, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful
possession of a weapon, being under the influence of CDS, possession of suspected CDS Xanax,
hindering by providing false information, and obstructing the administration of justice. She was
issued a summons for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, possession of CDS in a motor
vehicle, unlicensed driver, and failure to stop or yield. Burke was ultimately transported to the
Hudson County Correctional Facility.
5. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Police Officers Nasir Willey, Arturo
Gonzalez, and Harry Montalvo responded to the 300 block of Harrison Street on reports of
someone sleeping in a stairwell between the fifth and sixth floors. The man, who provided a false
identity at first, was later identified as 69-year-old Roberto Ortiz of Hoboken, and it was
discovered he had an open warrant for his arrest out of Hoboken for criminal trespassing,
possession of drug paraphernalia, and hindering. He was placed under arrest and a search
incident to arrest revealed an ink holder, commonly used as a push rod, and a glass cylinder with
steel wool and burn marks on one end. Ortiz was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters
and charged with criminal trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and hindering. He was
ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
6. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Police Officers Mario Rodriguez and
Donovan Ortiz responded to the 1000 block of Garden Street, on reports of a man acting
suspiciously by looking into vestibules, possibly for packages. Police Officer Harry Montalvo
arrived on the scene and observed a man who fit the description of the actor on the 900 block of
Garden Street. Police Officers Daniel Barron, Joseph Lupo, and Andrias Bonilla also arrived to
assist. The man, later identified as 40-year-old Kadien Jackson of Brooklyn, was stopped and it
was revealed he was wanted on a warrant out of Englewood for driving without proof of
insurance. Jackson was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He
was later released with a new court date in Englewood.
7. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Police Officers David Smentkowski, Rose
Kanan, and Stephen Chowanec responded to the 300 block of 13th Street on reports of fight
involving multiple individuals inside a residential building. Upon arrival they located a victim
who appeared to be injured, and the actor, later identified as 62-year-old Victor Lazu of
Hoboken, who also appeared injured. Sgt. Daniel Grossi, Sgt. Roary Miller, and Police Officers
Andrias Bonilla and Joseph Lupo arrived on the scene. An on-scene investigation revealed Lazu
had hit the victim several times on the head with a metal box. He was placed under arrest and
transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was charged with aggravated assault, possession
of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of the weapon. He was released with
a summons at a local hospital.
8. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Police Officers Matthew Bonanno and
Anthony Rutkowski responded to the 400 block of Washington Street on reports of a disorderly
person, who was wanted on two warrants. The individual was identified as 34-year-old Michelle
Rodriguez of Hoboken, and the warrants were confirmed. One was out of Hudson County for
burglary and the other was from Jersey City for simple assault. She was arrested and a search
incident to arrest located a clear pipe with copper mesh inside. Rodriguez was transported to
Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She was
processed on the possession charge and both warrants and ultimately transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
9. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 7 p.m. Police Officer Rose Kanan was on Fourth Street
when she observed a car being operated in an erratic manner. She saw the vehicle turn onto
Jefferson Street and speed up causing the tires to screech. The vehicle also swerved, narrowly
missing several parked cars. The officer pulled the car over on the 200 block of Adams Streetand
as she approached, noticed a bottle of Jameson whiskey in the driver’s side console. The driver,
later identified as 37-year-old Michael Giallombardo of Hoboken, appeared to be intoxicated,
was slurring his speech, and emitting a strong odor of alcohol from his breath. Officer Andrias
Bonilla arrived on the scene. Giallombardo refused to get out of his vehicle for a field sobriety
test. Sgt. Roary Miller, Sgt. Daniel Grossi, and Police Officers John Rodreguez and Donovan
Ortiz arrived on the scene to assist. Giallombardo was removed from the vehicle and continued
to be combative. He was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. A
search of the vehicle located a bottle of whiskey, which was about three-quarters empty.
Giallombardo refused to submit a breath sample. He was charged with resisting arrest and
obstructing the administration of the law. He was issued summonses for driving while
intoxicated, refusal for breath test, reckless driving, open container of alcohol, careless driving,
and driving with a suspended license. As per John’s law, he was released from custody after 12
hours.
10. On April 13, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m., Police Officers David Smentkowski and
Stephen Chowanec responded to Hoboken Police Headquarters to take custody of 33-year-old
Shadick Shamsuddin of West New York, who was brought in by West New York Police. He was
wanted on warrants for shoplifting out of Hoboken and Secaucus. A search of his property
located a cylindrical glass pipe burnt at one end containing copper wire mesh and a metal rod
with black residue on one end. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was
processed on the warrants and new charge, before being transported to the Hudson County
Correctional Facility.
11. On April 14, 2025, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Police Officers Carmen Benitez and Jaydan
Gonzalez were conducting a building sweep of a Hoboken Housing Authority building on the
500 block of Marshall Drive, when they observed a man sitting in a staircase. It was discovered
that the individual, later identified as 49-year-old Jeffery Wheeler of Hoboken, did not live in the
building. He was arrested and charged with defiant trespassing, issued a summons, and released
from custody.
12. On April 15, 2025, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Police Officers Jaydan Gonzal and Brandon
Cappelluti responded to Hoboken Police Headquarters to take custody of 26-year-old Rigoberto
Duran of Phillipsburg, who was brought in by Lyndhurst Police, for processing on an open
warrant out of Hoboken. After being processed on charges of bail jumping for a failure to appear
on a motor vehicle summons, and posting bail, Duran was released from police custody.
13. On April 15, 2025, at approximately 12:11 p.m., Police Officer Mario Rodriguez responded
to Hoboken Police Headquarters to process the arrest of 55-year-old Lillian Rivera of Jersey
City, who was wanted in connection to a shoplifting at Warby Parker, 538 Washington St., in
February during which Rivera was seen taking a pair of sunglasses and leaving without paying.
Rivera was released from police custody after being processed.
14. On April 15, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Police Officer Jairo De La Cruz was working
an outside employment job on the 700 block of Sinatra Drive when an individual, later identified
as 39-year-old Conor Gillespie of Hoboken, walked past the officer, ignoring instructions that he
could not walk northbound on the road as it was closed to pedestrians. Gillespie then turned
around, walked toward the officer at a fast pace, yelled at the officer, and then chest bumped and
shoved him. Gillespie resisted arrest by attempting to further assault the officer, who was able to
secure him. Sgt. Michael Straten, Sgt. Harold Milne, Police Officers Kyle Seper, Andrias
Bonilla, Rose Kanan, John Lawton, Valentino Salgado, Nicholas Protopapadakis, and Det.
Fabian Quinones responded to assist. Gillespie continued to act disorderly and spat at officers,
making contact with one of them. During a search incident to arrest, Gillespie was found to be in
possession of multiple knives. Gillespie was charged with aggravated assault on a law
enforcement officer, throwing bodily fluid at a law enforcement officer, unlawful possession of
weapons, and possession of weapons for unlawful purposes. Gillespie was transported to
Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed on all charges, and released from custody with a
summons.
15. On April 16, 2025, at approximately 12 p.m., Police Officer Anthony Rutkowski processed
the arrest of 26-year-old Destiny Lopez of Jersey City, who walked into Hoboken Police
Headquarters, after being found guilty on charges of theft of property lost, mislaid, or delivered
by mistake. She was identified as the actor who took a purse at Paris Baguette, 1000 Maxwell
La., on January 10, 2025. After being photographed and fingerprinted, Lopez was released from
police custody.
