On Friday, May 2nd, 2025, at 12:41 AM, Harrison units were dispatched to Frank E Rodgers Blvd near the intersection of Guyon Dr, on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Further investigation revealed that a black SUV had struck the electrical sign board. At 1:01 AM Officer Puglla observed a black Hyundai driving southbound on Frank E Rodgers Blvd with no headlights, delaying traffic, and not allowing other vehicle to pass. Officer Puglla also observed the driver falling asleep while driving. Officer Puglla then conducted a traffic stop with the motorist. Upon Officer Puglla speaking with the driver, he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage, his eyes watery and bloodshot and an open box of beer behind the driver’s seat, also containing open containers of alcohol. While Officer Puglla was speaking with the motorist identified as Mr. Nibaldo Broncano-Lema of Newark, Officer Delgado noticed fresh marks, scratches and damage to the left side bumper of the vehicle. When Mr. Lema was asked if he was involved in a motor vehicle crash, he stated that he had struck a post earlier but could not confirm the time or location of the incident. At this time, Mr. Lema’s wife arrived on the scene. Officers then asked his wife if she was in the vehicle during the time of the crash to which she stated “yes” but could not confirm the location of the incident. Furthermore, town surveillance footage confirmed Mr. Lema’s vehicle was the vehicle that struck the sign board. At this time officers on scene conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. After the Field Sobriety Test was conducted, Mr. Lema was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.
