Newark Woman Arrested After Attacking Supermarket Security Guard

On Friday, April 25th, 2025, at approximately 8:43 PM Harrison units were dispatched to Seabra’s on a report of a dispute between a security officer and an unknown individual who was attempting to shoplift from the store. Harrison units were further advised that the unknown individual possibly had a pair of scissors. Upon arrival Harrison units approached the unknown suspect later identified as Vivian Ugalde of Newark. Other Harrison units then met with the security officer who stated he observed the suspect at the cash register, ringing up items when she attempted to pay but her credit card was declined. Prior to the suspects card being declined, she had already consumed two bottles of juice and continued to walk out of the store without paying for the items. Before the suspect could exit the security officer approached the suspect from behind to prevent her from leaving the store without paying for the items. As the security officer moved his arm out to stop the suspect, the suspect pushed and spat at him. The security officer took the suspects bookbag and placed it in front of her. The suspect then grabbed a pair of scissors from her bag, raised her left arm backwards in motion to attack the security officer, and grazed him with the scissors. The suspect then attempted to leave the store and was detained by Harrison units. The suspect was arrested and later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
