Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

The Library will remain closed for flooring replacement this weekend and will reopen on Monday, May 12 at 10 am. No items owned by the Tenafly Library are due during this time, and you may use your card at any other local library. You may also return your items in the Library book drop.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Trash-a-Thon. With your support over 87 participants were able to clean up our green spaces, removing 900+ pounds of litter from around Tenafly, helping to ensure that our natural world is being left with only footprints.

The Garden Club’s Annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale continues this Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm rain or shine at two locations: the Greenhouse at Davis Johnson Park and Oresko Memorial Green (opposite the Post Office). The sale includes flowering annuals in pots of varying sizes, hanging baskets, patio planters and flats. Quality plants at competitive prices!

Join us for our 5th Annual Lacrosse Day this Saturday, May 10 at Geissenger Field. Kick off starts with HS Varsity boys vs. Paramus at Noon, followed by Recreation youth boys and girls scrimmages and games. Come enjoy food trucks, vendors, contests, prizes and more! Bring new or used lacrosse gear for our donation drive. See you there!

On Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 pm, the Presbyterian Church will hold the first of six organ concerts. They are fortunate to have two pipe organs! The first recital starts in the old Stone Chapel on the Aeolian-Skinner instrument, then moves from the Chapel to the Main Sanctuary for the second half on the Austin organ. This Saturday is the first of the recital series, and features the fabulous Princeton organist Joseph Ferguson.

Ready for some fresh air, forest fun, and feel-good moments? Join us this weekend at the Nature Center for outdoor adventures the whole family will love! On Saturday, May 10 and Sunday May 11, bring the kids for the Seasonal Scavenger Hunt from 1:00 pm to 2:00 p.m. Solve nature clues on the trails and explore together at your own pace.

Then, on Sunday, May 11, join in for a Mother's Day Family Hike from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. And don’t miss out on our Forest Defenders event on Sunday, May 11 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to help protect native plants. Whether you're a tiny explorer or a seasoned hiker, there's a trail waiting for you. Space is limited, so sign up now at tenaflynaturecenter.org

The Tenafly Elks are hosting a Mother's Day Brunch this Sunday, May 11, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Mothers eat free, Adults $20; Kids 3 to 12 $10; 3 and under are free. 20 Franklin Street.

The Tenafly Library Friends are excited to announce that next week they are welcoming the return of renowned art educator, Janet Mandel. She will be presenting a fascinating lecture on the Harlem Renaissance art movement, this Monday, May 12 at 10:30 am at the Tenafly library. Please mark your calendars for this wonderful free event. No registration is required.

And also, on Tuesday, May 13 at 1:00 pm at the library, the Tenafly Library Friends will be presenting as their monthly Tuesday Afternoon Movie, "I'm Still Here." This 2024 movie won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and it is about a woman activist coping with the forced disappearance of her husband. It's free and no registration is needed.

Don’t miss An Enchanted Evening on Saturday, May 17 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The Nature Center spring fundraiser gala celebrating community, conservation, and connection. With dinner, dancing, and the presentation of the Founders Award for Conservation and Community Partner, it’s a night to remember, and all for a great cause. The Presbyterian Church and the director of music, Jim Millar is opening their doors with an invitation to take part in a community choir and orchestra project this spring. Rehearsals will be Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on May 13, 20, 27. If you are a singer age 14 and up, please contact Jim Millar to register your interest, or for questions email: dirmusic@tenaflypresby.org Repertoire includes Handel’s Zadok the Priest and Schubert’s Mass in G. The concert date is June 1.

Our Online Reservation System through Community Pass for reserving tennis and pickleball courts is now available. You can reserve and get immediate confirmation that the date and time you want to play is available and locked in! You can reserve for up to 2 weeks at a time! Visit Community pass in the Recreation section of the Borough website to reserve courts.
