Son Charged with Murdering His Father in Jersey City Homicide

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting at 117-121 Wade Street. Responding Officers located an unresponsive male – later identified as Gerard Brooker Sr., 52, of Jersey City – with apparent gunshot wounds inside a unit within the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene just after 8:30 p.m.

During the initial investigation, the victim’s son, Gerard Brooker Jr., 25, of Jersey City, was identified as a person of interest. He was arrested in Manhattan, New York, at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Brooker Jr. is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/(2), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1).

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit, the Jersey City Police Department, and the New York City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
