SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Social Services, this position serves customers
in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner while providing a wide range of clerical,
administrative, and operational support. This role involves assisting with various programs
within the Social Services Department, including direct customer service and logistical tasks,
to ensure smooth and effective service delivery as well as driving a bus as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Ability to safely operate a midsize bus and conduct safety checks to ensure vehicle
readiness.
- Drive Bus as needed, mainly during the school year, and adjust hours as needed to
accommodate bus driving duties.
- Answers telephones, takes messages, responds to telephone inquiries and makes
referrals when necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality while interacting with the public and others in a calm,
courteous, and tactful manner.
- Notify the supervisor of any unusual issues or problems that may arise
- Assist with specialized projects, which may include coordinating meetings, handling
responses and other related tasks.
- Operates transportation vehicles along established routes and scheduled stops, as
well as for special trips as needed.
- Maintain vehicles in a clean and good operating condition, perform minor repairs and
call for fleet maintenance for other repairs and parts if necessary.
- Prepare reports on the operation of vehicles.
- Records and maintains the record of fares and cash receipts and disbursements.
- Able to adapt to change effectively and manage additional essential tasks as
assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a clerical / administrative support function, with knowledge of basic
bookkeeping concepts.
- Must have a valid New Jersey driver’s license free from any convictions for the last
three (3) years with CDL passenger P endorsement required.
- Ability to assess and resolve operational issues related to bus functions; comprehend,
retain, and follow both oral and written instructions; quickly learn through explanations
and demonstrations; drive safely and skillfully; and perform routine maintenance,
cleaning, and minor emergency repairs on buses.
- Strong customer service skills with excellent interpersonal abilities to effectively engage
with passengers of all ages."
- Must pass DOT screening (including drug test), pre-employment screening, as well as
various random drug screenings throughout the year required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are

this job. This position will be performed both indoors and outdoors when driving the bus. The
employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to
fumes of airborne particles.
