318 York Street, Jersey City, NJ
The male victim of a fire in Jersey City on Thursday, May 15, 2025, has died as a result of his injuries.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department was notified of a fire at 318 York Street in Jersey City. Upon arrival, first responders observed fire in the basement apartment. During suppression activities, firefighters located an injured male, later identified as Albert Von Chorba, 97, of Jersey City, with serious injuries. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, and later Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after noon on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department investigated this matter. Foul play is not suspected and the cause appears to be electrical in nature.
