Randolph Township Police Department, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and Morris County Sheriff’s Office hosted an active shooter response training event for residents on Monday, May 19, 2025. The educational event was held at the Randolph Community Center. Representatives from several houses of worship in the Morris County community were in attendance.
The NJOHSP’s training symposium is developed to educate attendees on the evolution of an active shooter and tactics of past events, as well as provide guidance to help citizens determine the best course of action in an active shooter situation. Instructors offered guidance on preparedness and response, based on the Department of Homeland Security Run, Hide, Fight strategy.
Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Morris County Critical Infrastructure Coordinator Patrick Owens were among the evening’s speakers. They explained that the MCPO is available to conduct Vulnerability Risk Assessments upon request at houses of worship, best practices for security and emergency response, the importance of advanced preparation for special events, and how houses of worship can apply for state and federal grants.
Community members were able to network with law enforcement following the presentations.
