On June 3, 2025 at 9:44 A.M., an employee of Hudson Regional Hospital, 55 Meadowlands Parkway, called the Secaucus Police to report that a person within the hospital was in possession of a handgun. Responding Secaucus Police Officers located the male and recovered a fully loaded Springfield Hellcat semi-automatic 9mm handgun, that was possessed by Esai J. Baskerville.

Esai J. Baskerville was placed under arrest. He also had an active warrant from Newark with a bail of $5,000 with a 10% option.

“I commend the hospital staff for immediately reporting this incident to the police,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “Unlawfully possessing firearms is becoming way too common, but I am hopeful our criminal justice system will hold him accountable.”

Esai J. Baskerville, 23, of Irvington was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun [2C:39-5b(1)], Possession of Handgun Ammunition [2C:58-3.3b] and Possession of a Handgun in a Health Care Facility [2C:58-4.6a(21)]. He was lodged at the Hudson County Jail. These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
