1. On May 15, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Police Officers Carmen Benitez and Brandon
Cappelluti were conducting a sweep of a Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) Building on the
300 block of Harrison Street when they observed a man sleeping on the 10th floor staircase. The
man was identified as 69-year-old Robert Ortiz of Hoboken and the officers knew he was not a
resident of HHA. It was discovered he had a warrant for defiant trespassing in Hoboken. Ortiz
was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with criminal trespassing. After
being processed, he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
2. On May 15, 2025, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Police Officer Frank Lombardo processed the
arrest of 64-year-old Julie Aviles of Hoboken, who had reported to Hoboken Police Headquarters
on charges of theft of a package from property. The charge was in connection with a report filed
on April 1, 2025, after a victim reported a package had been stolen from inside a residential
building on the 200 block of Jackson Street. A follow up investigation by Police Officer Jason
Montalvo identified Aviles as the actor. A complaint was filed and mailed to Aviles. After being
processed on May 15, Aviles was released from police custody.
3. On May 15, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Police Officers Roberto Cuevas and Matthew
Bonanno responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting where the actor
was in custody of store security. An on-scene investigation revealed the man, later identified as
44-year-old Luis Medina of Jersey City, entered the store and placed a variety of meat products
into tote bags. When he left, he only paid for one item and tried to leave with approximately
$385 in unpaid items, before being stopped by security guards. He was placed under arrest for
shoplifting and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was discovered Medina had three
active warrants out of Jersey City. After processing, Medina was transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
4. On May 16, 20205, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Sgt. Harold Milne observed a vehicle facing
the wrong way on Harrison Street near Observer Highway. He approached and observed that two
vehicles had been involved in a crash, resulting in a pole being knocked down. Multiple injuries
were also reported. The Hoboken Fire Department and the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance
Corps also responded to assist. An individual, later identified as 37-year-old Lina Garcia of
Elizabeth, indicated she was one of the drivers involved in the accident. Sgt. Milne observed her
to be intoxicated. Police Officers Ricky Truppner and Domenick Allegretta arrived on the scene
to perform a field sobriety test, after which Garcia was placed under arrest for driving while
intoxicated. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where it was revealed Garcia
had lied about driving one of the cars. 37-year-old Edwyn Macelus of Nanuet, NY was later
determined to be the driver. He refused a field sobriety test. He was arrested for driving while
intoxicated and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. Garcia was charged with hindering
the apprehension of another and issued a summons for not wearing a seatbelt. Macelus was
charged with three counts of assault by auto and hindering apprehension. He was also issued
summonses for multiple traffic violations. As per John’s Law, Macelus was released into the
custody of a responsible party. Garcia was released on a summons.
5. On May 16, 2025, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Barron and Harry
Montalvo responded to Kings Food Market, 1212 Shipyard La., on reports of a shoplifting. An
on-scene investigation revealed a person walked into the store, took two containers of Tide pods,
and attempted to leave without paying. Store employees stopped him, and he gave back the
items. During the investigation, officers were able to identify the actor as 29-year-old Jacob
Smith of Hoboken. A short time later, Police Officer Alyssa Olivera observed a man who fit
Smith’s description and stopped him. A search incident to arrest located a cylindrical glass pipe
with burnt ends. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with
shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia. After being processed, he was transported to
the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
6. On May 16, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Police Officer Remy Garcia-Marte processed
the arrest of 45-year-old Christian Munoz of Hampton Bays, New York. Munoz was charged
with criminal mischief in connection to an incident reported on March 22 during which an
individual got out of his own car while in traffic, struck another vehicle with his hands causing
damage, and yelled racial slurs at the driver. A follow-up investigation by Det. Luis Rodriguez
identified Munoz as the driver. A summons complaint was generated and mailed to Munoz. On
May 16, Munoz was processed and released with a court date.
7. On May 17, 2025, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Police Officers Anish Bhisey, Trevor Thomas,
Marvin DeJesus, and David Smentowski were on patrol on the 50 block of Washington Street
when they observed two groups of people in a verbal altercation. Officers attempted to deescalate the situation and gave all the individuals involved multiple warnings to disperse, but
both groups continued to argue and proceeded to approach each other in a manner as if to
physically fight. One man, later identified as 22-year-old Mohammad Aliouche of Brooklyn,
NY, was seen by officers' taking a swing at another individual. Aliouche resisted arrest and
ignored orders to stop resisting. Once placed under arrest, he was charged with disorderly
conduct, resisting arrest, and simple assault. He was transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters, processed, and released on a summons with a court date.
8. On May 17, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m. Police Officers Trevor Thomas and Anish
Bhisey responded to reports of someone sleeping in the stairwell of a Hoboken Housing
Authority (HHA) building on the 500 block of Jackson Street. They found the man, later
identified as 49-year-old Jeffrey Wheeler of Hoboken, on the second floor and it was determined
Wheeler did not live in the building and didn’t have a valid reason for being there. He was
arrested for defiant trespassing, issued a summons, and released on the scene after being escorted
from the building.
9. On May 16, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., multiple units responded to the 500 block of
Sinatra Drive on reports of a disorderly person. An on-scene investigation revealed the
individual, later identified as 26-year-old Michael Slattery of Boston, had stopped three females,
including a teenager and harassed them by hitting a cart they had with them, yelling racial slurs
at them, and pulling their arms aggressively. He also tried to knock a phone out of the hands of
one of the adults. When interviewed by officers, Slattery refused to answer questions and
wouldn’t speak about the matter. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and
charged with bias intimidation and harassment. He was processed and released with a summons.
10. On May 17, 2025, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Police Officer Shyenna Vega was patrolling
on the 800 block of Sinatra Drive when she observed a vehicle parked illegally and in a way that
forced other cars to go around it in an unsafe manner. The officer activated her lights and sirens
to get the car to move. When it didn’t, she approached the vehicle and observed a man, later
identified 37-year-old Jorge Camacho of Union City, sleeping in the driver’s seat with the engine
still on. Police Officer John Lawton arrived on the scene to assist. Officers smelled the odor of
an alcoholic beverage emanating from Camaco’s breath. Officer Vega was able to see an open
can of beer in plain view on the floor of the passenger seat. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officers
Jairo De La Cruz and Zackary Guido arrived on the scene. A field sobriety test was performed,
after which it was determined Comacho was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely, and he was
placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters for processing. He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless
driving, obstructing passage of other vehicles, and having an open alcoholic beverage container
in his car. As per John’s Law, Comacho was released into the custody of a responsible party.
11. On May 17, 2025, at approximately 1 p.m., Sgt. Tyler Soto and Police Officer Joseph Lupo
responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports shoplifting with the actor in custody of store
security. An on-scene investigation revealed a man, later identified as 38-year-old Eric Duvall of
Hoboken, was seen at the check-out placing items into a bag without scanning or paying for
approximately $140 worth of merchandise before being stopped at the exit. He was placed under
arrest, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing, and released with a summons.
12. On May 18, 2025, at approximately 10:20 a.m., Police Officer Rose Kanan observed a man
she could identify as 29-year-old Jacob Smith of Hoboken walking on Fourth Street at Madison
Street and knew he had an active warrant for theft and burglary. The warrant was confirmed.
Detective Paul Quinn, Detective Harold Milne, and Police Officer Brandon Cappelluti observed
Smith on the 500 block of Jackson Street, and he was stopped. A search incident to arrest located
a cylindrical glass pipe with burnt edges, a piece of steel wool, and a miniature yellow
translucent capsule commonly used to store CDS crack cocaine. Smith was transported to
Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was additionally charged with possession of drug
paraphernalia. After being processed, he was transported to Hudson County Correctional
Facility.
13. On May 19, 2025, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Sgt. Nicholas Losurdo, Sgt. Harold Milne
and Police Officers Ahmed Makshat and Zackary Guido observed two men, later identified as
46-year-old Santos Sierra of Jersey City and 34-year-old Jonatan Davila of Union City, entering
a Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) building on the 300 block of Marshall Drive. When they
left, they walked through HHA property toward the Second Street Light Rail station. When they
observed the officers, they began to walk away but were stopped. Sierra threw an object onto the
light rail tracks, later discovered to be cigarettes that had been dipped in suspected Phencyclidine
(PCP). Sierra and Davila were placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters. Sierra was charged with possession of CDS, hindering apprehension, possession
of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespassing. Davila was charged with defiant trespassing.
Both men were released with summonses.
14. On May 19, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Sgt. Adam Colon, Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez,
Detectives Fabian Quinones, Connor Milne, and Anthony Azzoline, and Police Officers Anthony
Olivera and Police Officer Bianca Arroyo responded to the 300 block of 13th Street on reports of
two men involved in a dispute. An on-scene investigation revealed one individual, later
identified as 81-year-old Galo Estrella of Hoboken, was the aggressor trying to hit another man
with a bag containing a hard item inside, which was discovered to be a piece of a bed frame.
Estrella was placed under arrest for aggravated assault and possession of weapons for unlawful
purposes. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and released with a
summons.
15. On May 19, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Police Officers Teddy Santiago and Marco
Grossman responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting where the actor,
later identified as Ashley Gonzalez, took a total of $21.30 worth of merchandise and left without
paying. Captain David Olivera, who was working at an outside employment detail nearby,
arrested Gonzalez after she spat at store security who attempted to stop her. Gonzalez was
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting and harassment. It was
discovered she had a warrant for simple assault out of Bayonne. After being processed, Gonzalez
was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
16. On May 20, 2025, at approximately 11:20 a.m., an individual entered Hoboken Police
Headquarters to report that she was the victim of ongoing harassment. A follow-up investigation
identified 72-year-old Harold Whalen of Hoboken as the actor and discovered he had committed
harassment multiple times in recent weeks, including pulling fire alarms in his building, placing
soiled diapers and sex toys on and around his neighbor’s doors, and roaming hallways nude.
Officers responded to his residence and Whalen was arrested for stalking and witness tampering.
He was ultimately transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing and then the
Hudson County Correctional Facility.
17. On May 20, 2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Police Officer John Rodriguez was on patrol
at Church Square Park when he observed a man he could identify as 44-year-old Damont Dyer of
North Bergen. It was confirmed that Dryer had a warrant out of Hoboken for possession of drug
paraphernalia and defiant trespassing. Police Officers John Lawton, Stephen Chowanec, and
Roberto Cuevas responded to assist. Dyer was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters. After being processed on the warrant out of Hoboken, and another from
Hudson County, he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
18. On May 21, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m., Police Officers Jonathan Figueroa and
Roberto Cuevas responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting. An on-scene investigation revealed a man, later identified as 31-year-old Shawn Zambrano of Jersey
City, was seen concealing items worth a total of $164.97 in a bag and trying to exit without
paying, before store security stopped him. Zambrano was transferred to Hoboken Police
Headquarters and processed on shoplifting charges. He was ultimately transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
