Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 62-year-old FIDEL FERNANDEZ of Englewood, NJ on charges of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Englewood Police Department, under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.
On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency (“DCP&P”) contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child under the age of thirteen that occurred in Englewood, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that FIDEL FERNANDEZ sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile in Englewood, NJ on two occasions between the dates of May 10, 2025, and June 22, 2025.
As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, FIDEL FERNANDEZ was arrested in Englewood, NJ and charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1); and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). FERNANDEZ was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Englewood Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
