On June 23, 2025, a patron at the Short Hills Mall reported leaving his wallet on a chair in the sitting area
adjacent to Neiman Marcus. When he returned, the wallet was missing. Millburn Police Officer
Greenbush responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Through his efforts, Officer Greenbush
identified the suspect who stole the wallet as Kyong Chong, 48, of Closter, New Jersey. Chong later
returned the wallet to police HQ and was charged with theft of mislaid or lost property.
On June 26,2025, following a thorough investigation led by Detective Wichelns of the Millburn Police
Department, a suspect has been identified and charged in connection with package thefts that occurred
earlier this year. The thefts took place in April 2025 after multiple reports of stolen packages were
received from residents in the area of Norwood Terrace and Browning Road. Detective Wichelns
investigation led to the identification of the suspect. Joe L. Burglos-Mordan, 26 years old, of Fort Lee, NJ,
was charged with two counts of theft of movable property.
On June 27, 2025, Millburn Detective Herrera charged Aljuwan Shakur, age 59, in connection with an
attempted burglary that occurred earlier this month on Ridgewood Road. The incident took place when
Shakur allegedly attempted to gain entry into a residence through both the front door and a window.
Despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful in entering the home. Following an investigation, Shakur was
identified as the suspect and has been formally charged with Attempted Burglary and Peering into a
Dwelling.
On June 30, 2025, Millburn Police Officer Strumolo responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle—a
white Chevy Tahoe—parked in a traffic lane on White Oak Ridge Road with a woman asleep inside.
Following an investigation at the scene, the driver, identified as 49-year-old Sonya Ameli of Berkeley
Heights, was arrested for suspected driving while intoxicated (DWI). She was charged with DWI and
refusal to submit to a breath test. Ameli was later released into the custody of an acquaintance.
On July 2, 2025, Millburn Police received a report of a male suspect observed opening a mail
drop box at the Millburn Post Office and removing mail. The suspect was seen leaving the area
in a gray SUV. Millburn Sergeant Manuyag located and stopped the suspect vehicle, detaining
the individual. Following an investigation, Shaquan Houston, 30, of Mount Vernon, NY, was
arrested. Officers recovered a bag of stolen mail and a stolen USPS mailbox key. The recovered
stolen key was identified as the same one stolen from a mail carrier during a robbery on Walnut
Street on May 13, 2023. Houston was charged with theft of movable property, possession of
burglary tools, receiving stolen property, and trafficking in identity theft. He was transported to
and lodged at the Essex County Correctional facility.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or
are found guilty in a court of law.
