Letter from Westwood Mayor Regarding Solar Energy Program

In anticipation of the pending electric rate increases from PSE&G, the Borough would like to make you aware of a potential cost savings opportunity through the New Jersey Community Solar Energy Program (CSEP). Whether you rent or own your home, you can enroll in the CSEP and save money on your electric bill without installing solar panels on your roof.

How does it work? Once you enroll with a CSEP developer and a project becomes available, you will be assigned a portion of solar panels that are installed on a commercial rooftop. Your assigned solar panels will generate electricity that is sent to the utility grid. The amount of electricity that your share of the project generates will be identified on your PSE&G bill as solar credits. You will pay less for those credits (than you otherwise would have paid full price to PSE&G) based on a pre-determined discount, which is guaranteed for 20 years.

The CSEP is open to everyone at all income levels on a first-come first-serve basis, however, households that qualify as low-to-moderate-income (LMI) are prioritized.

There are currently numerous state-approved community solar projects being constructed throughout New Jersey. In fact, we have one located right here in Westwood! Solar Landscape, the project developer, will be installing a solar array on a commercial rooftop in Westwood. This project will generate a 31% solar credit discount to subscribers for the share of the electricity that their portion of the project generates. The project may not be energized until sometime in 2026, but you don’t have to wait for the Westwood project to be constructed. You can enroll in any of the available community solar projects being energized across the PSE&G service territory to see savings starting in early 2026. For a listing of PSE&G projects visit nj.pseg.com.

To learn more about the Westwood project or to enroll in the project, visit www.solarlandscape.com/nj/westwood, call 732-589-7528 or scan the QR code and use promo code WESTWOOD. You will need to provide your 10-digit PSE&G account number to complete the enrollment process.

Prior to signing on with any project developer, however, the Borough suggests that you learn more about community solar by visiting www.njcleanenergy.com.
