On Monday, July 21, 2025, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested a Union City man following a child sexual abuse material investigation.
Erik Umana, 39, is charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(5)(b)(ii), a crime of the second degree. He was arrested at the Essex County Correctional Facility where he was being detained on a separate matter.
In April 2025, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a referral that the defendant was storing child sexual abuse material on a cellular device. A court authorized data search of the device recovered over 1,000 images of child sexual abuse material.
The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
