
1. On May 30, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Police Officers David Smentkowski and
Stephen Chowanec were in the area of Washington and Third Streets, when they were
approached by an individual who said another man in a vehicle, was threatening him with a
possible weapon. When officers approached the other man, later identified as 35-year-old
Jonnathan Montoya of Wallington, they observed he had a hammer on his lap. Montoya was
ordered to throw the hammer on the passenger side floor and get out of the car, which he did.
Sgt. Daniel Grossi, Sgt. Michael Losurdo, and Police Officers Ronald Kibitlewski, Anish Bhisey,
David Chicara, Ahmed Makshat, Brian Kim, Zackary Guido, and Frank Losurdo arrived on the
scene to assist. An on-scene investigation determined Montoya had been on the 50 block of
Washington Street staring at the victim and two women he was with. The three felt
uncomfortable and left the area, but Montoya followed in his vehicle. When he got out of the car,
he pointed his fingers in the shape of a firearm at the three people and said, “I’m going to shoot
you.” Montoya then got back into his car and continued to follow the group. When he got out
again, he used an object to strike an outdoor dining area. This is when the victims approached the
officers. A field sobriety test was performed on Montoya, after which he was arrested for driving
while intoxicated. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to
submit a breath sample. He was additionally charged with making terroristic threats, stalking,
criminal mischief, unlawful possession of weapon, possession of weapon for unlawful purpose,
as well as multiple traffic violations including reckless driving and refusal to submit a breath test.
As per John’s Law, Montoya was released after mandatory hold.
2. On May 30, 2025, at approximately 9:55 a.m., Police Officer Aaron Font was on patrol in the
area of Fifth and Washington Streets, when he observed a gas powered moped in the bicycle
lane, attempting to pass cars. When the officer tried to pull the moped over, the driver made eye
contact with the officer, acknowledged the order to pull over, and then accelerated and fled. Two
bystanders then flagged the officer down and told him they saw the moped driver running down
Court Street. The man, later identified as 23-year-old Ali Mohamed of Jersey City, refused
orders to stop running. The officer caught up with Mohamed, who resisted arrest. Mohamed was
eventually placed in handcuffs and placed under arrest. Lt Christopher Labruno and Police
Officers Joseph Spano, Daniel Barron, Arturo Gonzalez, Tyrone Huggins, and Marco Grossman
arrived on the scene to assist. Mohamed was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and
charged with eluding by motor vehicle and resisting arrest. He was also issued summonses for
failure to wear a high visibility vest, driving a motorized vehicle in the bicycle lane, improper
passing, improper lane change, failure to obey law enforcement direction, reckless driving,
unlicensed driver, improper parking, failure to exbibit a driver's license, failure to exhibit
registration, failure to exhibit insurance, failure to wear a motorcycle helmet, and failure to use
turn signal. After processing, he was released from police custody.
3. On May 30, 2025, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Police Officers Mario Rodriguez, Jairo De La
Cruz, and Roberto Cuevas responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting.
Upon arrival, they located the actor, later identified as 21-year-old Ariana Saez of Jersey City, in
custody of store security. An on-scene investigation revealed Saez had put grocery items into a
bag and walked through the self-checkout without paying for approximately $86 in merchandise.
Store security stopped her at the exit. She was arrested for shoplifting and transported to
Hoboken Police Headquarters. After processing, she was released on a summons.
4. On May 30, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Police Officer Valentino Salgado was in the
area of First and Monroe Streets when he saw an individual he could identify as 29-year-old
Jacob Smith of Hoboken, who he believed had an open warrant. Smith was detained and a
warrant for criminal trespassing and possession of CDS was confirmed. Police Officers Michael
Chen, Keven De La Cruz, and Brian Kim arrived on the scene to assist. Smith was arrested and a
search incident to arrest located suspected CDS crack cocaine. He was transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters for processing on the warrant and an additional charge of possession of
CDS. Smith was ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
5. On May 31, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Police Officers Donovan Ortiz and Jayden
Gonzalez observed a vehicle turn the wrong way down First Street from Washington Street.
They pulled over the car, and when they approached the driver, later identified as 22-year-old
Linus Rodriguez of Hawthorne, they observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from
his breath. From outside the car, the officers were able to see alcoholic beverages in the
passenger and rear seating areas. Police Officer Dylan Allegretta arrived on the scene to conduct
a field sobriety test, after which Rodriguez was arrested for driving under the influence. During a
search incident to arrest, additional containers of alcoholic beverages were located in the rear
compartment of the car. Rodriguez was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was
issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving a motor vehicle the
wrong way on a one-way street, and an open alcoholic beverage container. As per John’s Law,
Rodriguez was released into the custody of a responsible party.
6. On June 1, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Police Officers Jennifer Lee, Jessica Pizanie,
and Alyssa Rivera responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting. When
they arrived, they identified the actor as 55-year-old Brian Sassone of Brick. An on-scene
investigation revealed Sassone picked up a package of steak and left without paying. When store
security followed him outside to check his bags, Sassone pushed one of them. Security held him
until officers arrived, and he was placed under arrest for robbery. Sassone was transported to
Hoboken Police Headquarters where it was discovered he had a warrant out of Newark for
smoking in a public place, and another for failure not to disclose CDS on your person out of
Elizabeth. After processing, he was ultimately transported to Hudson County Correctional
Facility.
7. On June 2, 2025, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Police Officer PO Nasir Willey responded to
Walgreens, 1300 Willow Ave., on reports of a shoplifting where a store employee stopped the
actor outside the store. Police Officer Elias Colon arrived to assist. An on-scene investigation
revealed the actor, later identified as 54-year-old Osvaldo Cruz of the Bronx, left the
establishment with items he didn’t pay for. He was placed under arrest for shoplifting and
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was discovered Cruz had an active warrant out of
Hoboken for theft. He was processed on the warrant, issued a complaint summons for
shoplifting, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
8. On June 3, 2025, at approximately 11 a.m., Police Officer Nasir Willey responded to the 300
block of Bloomfield Street on reports of an individual smoking CDS in public. When he arrived,
he made eye contact with a woman who fit the description, later identified as 34-year-old
Michelle Rodriguez of Hoboken, and saw her hide an object under her shirt. During an on-scene
investigation, she was found to be in possession of a glass cylindrical pipe, steel wool, and a
push rod. When she was told she was being arrested, Rodriguez threw the glass cylindrical pipe,
breaking it. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with possession of
drug paraphernalia and evidence tampering. She was ultimately transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
9. On June 3, 2025, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Hoboken Police responded to Lululemon, 313
Washington St., on reports of a shoplifting, where three individuals had already left the store and
fled in a vehicle. While just outside Hoboken Police Headquarters, Police Officer Nasir Willey
observed a car that matched the description of the vehicle that fled the scene. The driver of the
car refused Officer Willey’s orders to stop the vehicle and attempted to drive away. The driver
then purposefully hit a vehicle stopped in front of him, to get around it. Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez and
Police Officer Mark Mooreman ran out of HPD headquarters to assist. They observed six
passengers in the vehicle, including three juvenile teenagers, all of whom were ordered out of the
car. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Jamar Smith of Brooklyn, opened his side door
and was placed under arrest. Officers could observe clothing items from Lululemon scattered
across the backseat of the car. An on-scene investigation at the store by Police Officer Rose
Kanan, revealed three individuals walked into the store, grabbed approximately 20 items of
clothing worth a total value of $2,190, and fled on foot before getting into the vehicle. All were
taken inside Hoboken Police Headquarters to be charged and processed. Smith was charged with
resisting arrest, assault by auto, use of someone 17 years-old or younger to commit a criminal
offense, endangering the welfare of children, conspiracy, and shoplifting. 25-year-old Tyquan
Murray of Brooklyn was charged with shoplifting and using someone 17-years-old or younger to
commit a criminal offense. 24-year-old Zykeem Clayton of Brooklyn was charged with
shoplifting and using someone 17-years-old or younger to commit a criminal offense. 18-year-old Mariyah Sargeant of the Bronx was charged with conspiracy, shoplifting, and using someone
17-years-old or younger to commit criminal offense. They were all released with summonses.
The three juveniles received station house adjustments and were released into the custody of
guardians.
10. On June 3, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., 41-year-old Angelo Santiago of Hoboken,
was brought to Hoboken Police Headquarters by Union City Police after he was arrested there
and found to have a warrant out of Hoboken for shoplifting. The initial report was taken by Sgt.
Anthony Fesken and Police Officer Joseph Spano on April 28, 2025, after Santiago was found
taking approximately $379 in merchandise from the AT&T Store, 106 Washington St. A follow
up investigation by Police Officer Anthony Ingraffia identified Santiago as the actor. After being
processed on June 3, Santiago was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
11. On June 4, 2025, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Police Officers Nicholas Losurdo and David
Smentkowski responded to Zapp Gym, 84 Washington St., on reports of two individuals
breaking into the gym. Sgt. Michael Straten, Sgt. Robert Roman, and Police Officers Ricky
Truppner, Aidan Gonzalez, and Ronald Kibitlewski also responded to the scene. Upon arrival
they observed the front door open even though the lock was in a locked position. They went into
the gym, in the basement, and saw two men holding backpacks. The men, identified as 19-year-old Walid Chouhouch of Jersey City and 19-year-old Adam Aitbrahim Jersey City, were arrested
and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing on charges of burglary and theft
of services. Both were released on a summons.
12. On June 4, 2025, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Police Officers Roberto Cuevas and Jairo De
La Cruz responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of shoplifting where store security
had the actor, identified as 36-year-old Jinbo Yang of Jersey City, in custody. An on-scene
investigation revealed Yang entered the store with an electric scooter and reusable grocery bags.
He put several items in his bag but at checkout only paid for some of the items. He tried to leave
without paying for about $69 worth of groceries before store security stopped him. Yang was
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting. After being
processed, he was released on a summons.
