Sussex County Launches New Mobile Health Clinic

As an ongoing commitment to protect the health and safety of residents, the Sussex County Board of County Commissioners authorized the utilization of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding in 2023 for the Division of Health to purchase a Mobile Health Clinic. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Health Division in Hardyston on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to celebrate the arrival of this new vehicle. Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia, Commissioner Director Chris Carney and Deputy Director Jill Space participated in the ceremony along with County Administrator Ron Tappan, Health and Human Services Administrator Christine Florio, and Health Officer/Director Jennifer Shortino.

The Mobile Health Clinic offers ample room for the Office of Public Health Nursing to maintain the storage and space necessary to perform various health clinics remotely throughout the county. The vehicle will help to increase capacity and accessibility to year-round clinics, prevention and education opportunities, and health services to all 24 municipalities, especially the outermost sections of the county. In addition, it will create opportunities for department-wide initiatives and provide Health staff with access to a fully stocked mobile clinic in the event of a public health emergency.

“The Commissioners were excited to invest in something that will directly impact the community,” stated Deputy Director Jill Space. “The addition of this Mobile Health Clinic will allow the Office of Public Health Nursing to serve all areas of our rural county and address barriers for our residents such as a lack of reliable transportation.”

The ability to serve more residents contributes to Public Health Nursing’s ability to promote health and education throughout the entire community. The Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health, Office of Public Health Nursing thanks the Commissioner Board for investing in its operations and the community it proudly serves.
