Attorney General Investigating Police-Involved Shooting in Newark

The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Newark, New Jersey. One adult male civilian sustained a gunshot wound. His identity is not being released at this time. No police officers were wounded.

According to the preliminary investigation, members of the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force were in Newark assisting Newark police officers with executing an arrest warrant for attempted murder and other criminal charges.

Yesterday afternoon, law enforcement encountered the individual inside a home on Irvine Turner Boulevard in the area of West Bigelow Street in Newark. The man began firing gunshots. Officers subsequently returned fire and the man was struck and wounded. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment. During a search of the residence, law enforcement recovered a rifle and a handgun.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
