Paterson Man Charged with Kidnapping and Sexual Assault of a Teen

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrest of Nahum Maldonado, 63 years old, of Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Maldonado is charged with Kidnapping, First Degree, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:13-1(b)(1); Sexual Assault, Second Degree, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:14-2c(1); and Criminal Sexual Contact, Fourth Degree, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:14-3b.

On August 20, 2025, at approximately 5:10 p.m., members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were notified that a 19-year-old man had reported that he had been sexually assaulted in Paterson. The preliminary investigation revealed that at about 4:06 p.m. that day, the suspect had deceived the victim into entering his vehicle and transported him to an isolated location where he sexually assaulted him. Based on the investigation, Nahum Maldonado was identified as the assailant and on July 30, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested him without incident in the area of East 15th Street and Lyon Street in Paterson.

The sentencing exposure on first degree Kidnapping is 15-30 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85 percent of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility, on second degree Sexual Assault, it is 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85 percent of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility, and on fourth degree criminal sexual contact, it is up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.

On August 5, 2025, Nahum Maldonado appeared before the Honorable Sohail Mohammed, P.J.Cr., who ordered him to be detained in the county jail after a hearing.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, in a court of law.
