Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda today announced the arrest of a Newark man for the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend.
Kasem McDonald, 42, shot Shaneequah Williams, 45, in her apartment at 89 Astor Street in Newark at around 10:45am on Saturday August 9. McDonald initially fled the scene but surrendered at the Essex County Correctional Facility on Saturday evening.
McDonald is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is also charged with second-degree convicted felon to have possession of a handgun.
These allegations are merely accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
