Man Charged in Connection with Chain Snatching Pattern in Paterson

The Paterson Police Department (PPD) today announced that a suspect has been apprehended and charged in connection with a series of thefts targeting female victims and snatching their chain necklaces.

According to information in the publicly filed complaints, between July 21 and July 30, 2025, female victims were targeted by a suspect on a scooter. The perpetrator is alleged to have driven up behind the victims, forcibly removed their necklaces, and then driven away. In one of the incidents, the victim was treated at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for minor injuries.

After a thorough investigation, 31-year-old Isaac Williams of Paterson was arrested on Monday, August 11, 2025, by PPD’s Major Crimes Unit detectives. Mr. Williams was charged with two counts of robbery, a second-degree crime, and two counts of theft, a third-degree crime.

“This arrest is a direct result of the public working with us,” said Officer in Charge Patrick Murray. “Once we shared the suspect’s photo on social media, tips started coming in that helped our detectives quickly identify and locate him. This case is a reminder that when residents and police work together, we can stop criminals from victimizing our community.”

Second-degree crimes carry a prison sentence of five to 10 years and a fine of up to $150,000. Third-degree crimes can carry a prison sentence of three to five years and a $15,000 fine.

The charges against the defendant are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

This case is being prosecuted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
