Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information regarding
the investigation into a mobile home explosion that resulted in a three-alarm fire on 6th Street
in Moonachie, NJ, on Monday, September 8, 2025. This joint investigation was conducted by the
Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the
Moonachie Police Department, under the direction of Chief Richard Behrens.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, at approximately 4:47 p.m., the Moonachie Police
Department and the Moonachie Fire Department, along with mutual aid from several
neighboring police and fire agencies, responded to reports of an explosion and fire of a mobile
home on 6th Street in Moonachie, NJ. During their initial response and fire suppression efforts
of the three-alarm fire, the Moonachie Police Department and Moonachie Fire Department
located an adult male victim inside of the mobile home. The victim, whose name is still being
withheld pending next-of-kin notifications, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Moonachie Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson
Squad and requested assistance from the Bergen County Arson Task Force. Detectives and Arson
Investigators from the Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene and initiated a joint
investigation in conjunction with the Moonachie Police Department, Moonachie Fire
Department, and Moonachie Fire Prevention Bureau. The investigation conducted by the Bergen
County Arson Squad and local fire officials revealed that the fire was not suspicious in nature.
