Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced today that three defendants were each sentenced to 60 years in prison for a 2021 fatal shooting in Newark. The Honorable Judge Ronald D. Wigler, J.S.C. presided over both the trial and the sentencing.

On July 2, 2025, a jury convicted 23-year-old Tyshon Armour of Newark, 23-year-old Reynold Henderson of Irvington, and 26-year-old Issad Jackson also of Irvington of first-degree murder.

The prosecution proved that on March 8, 2021, the defendants were in a stolen BMW-X5 when they approached 22-year-old Dedric Bracey on St. Paul Avenue in Newark. After following him, they stopped the vehicle. That’s when Armour and Jackson fired 13 shots at the victim, killing him. The defendants then fled the scene in the stolen car and drove to Irvington where the New Jersey State Police Motor Vehicle Crime North Unit tracked the vehicle. After a brief foot chase, the men were captured and arrested.

“This sentence sends the message that when you take a take a life, you will also give up yours. Think long and hard before you conspire with others to commit murder, because here in Essex County, you will be held accountable,” said Assistant Prosecutor Michele Miller.

Under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, the defendants must serve 85% of their sentence before they are eligible for parole.
