Woman Charged with Endangerment of a Child in Phillipsburg

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at approximately 5:30 P.M., the Phillipsburg Police Department responded to the 300 block of Mercer Street for the report of an unresponsive toddler. Upon arrival, members of the Phillipsburg Police Department Patrol Division provided basic life support and immediately transported the toddler to St. Luke’s Hospital, Warren Campus. The toddler was treated for submersion injuries due to being left unattended in a bathtub. The toddler was later transported to St. Luke’s Bethlehem Campus and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for advanced treatment. A joint investigation between the Phillipsburg Police Department, Criminal Investigations Division and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office was initiated. During the course of the investigation it was determined that Amber L. Schubert was legally responsible for the care and supervision of the toddler.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Schubert was arrested, processed, and lodged in the Warren County Correctional Center.

Schubert was charged on a Complaint Warrant with the offense below.
  1. Endangering the Welfare of a Child, in violation of N.J.S.A; 2C:24-4a(2), a crime of the second degree.

Second degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison.

The Charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation was conducted by the Phillipsburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
