On Monday, September 29, 2025, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office arrested a North Bergen man in connection with a nonfatal stabbing that occurred in Union City.
Axel Fuentes-Zavala, 35, is charged with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, and Harassment in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4b. He was arrested at his residence and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Union City Police Department was notified of a stabbing in the area of 30th Street and Jeanette Street. The female victim reported she was approached by an unknown male who stabbed her in the back multiple times after a brief interaction. The victim suffered injuries that are not considered life threatening. During the course of the investigation, the defendant was identified as an individual wanted in connection with a similar crime that occurred in North Bergen and was arrested on an open warrant relating to that matter.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
