The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Shakeem Clarke, of Jersey City, is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/(2), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, and Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1). He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Friday, October 3, 2025, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
Shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Union Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Responding officers located a male – later identified as Jamaal George, 27, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 a.m.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
