The Paterson Police Department reports that during the month of September, officers recovered 24 firearms through proactive enforcement and investigations.
The following incidents highlight the department’s ongoing efforts to remove illegal guns from city streets:
- September 21, 2025 – Market Street and E. 29th Street
Officers responded to reports of an intoxicated male carrying a backpack with a firearm. A search recovered a 9mm pistol with a large-capacity magazine, along with a ski mask. The suspect, a 28-year-old Clifton resident, was arrested and charged with weapons offenses.
- September 23, 2025 – West Broadway
During a compliance inspection with the NJ Department of Taxation, detectives located a loaded .38 caliber revolver concealed in a satchel, along with large quantities of unregulated marijuana and untaxed tobacco products. A 26-year-old Paterson man was arrested on multiple drug and weapons charges.
- September 24, 2025 – Madison Street & Essex Street
Officers investigating suspicious activity observed hand-to-hand narcotics transactions and apprehended three individuals. A handgun with a high-capacity magazine and a stolen 9mm handgun were recovered, along with heroin, crack cocaine, and cash. Two adults and one juvenile were charged with narcotics and weapons offenses.
- September 27, 2025 – Broadway and Summer Street
Detectives responding to a shooting investigation recovered a .38 Special revolver concealed in a crossbody bag hidden under a cinderblock. The firearm contained four live rounds and one spent casing. Multiple individuals were detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
In addition to these cases, other recoveries across the city brought the monthly total to 24 firearms.
So far in 2025, Paterson Police have recovered 120 firearms. At this time last year, the department had recovered 110.
“Every firearm seized represents one less weapon that can be used to commit violence in our city, one less tragedy shattering a family, and one less tool to victimize the people of Paterson,” said Officer in Charge Patrick Murray. “These arrests and recoveries underscore the dedication of our officers and our ongoing commitment to public safety. Every day Paterson Police officers work tirelessly to keep everyone safe and these numbers show they are doing just that. I thank each and every one of them for their unwavering dedication to this city and its residents.”
