Passaic County Police Academy, Wayne, NJ
The Paterson Police Department is proud to announce that 22 new officers have successfully graduated from the Passaic County Police Academy in Wayne and are set to begin their service to the City of Paterson. This is the largest class of new officers for the PPD in more than two years. The graduates were honored during a ceremony recognizing their successful completion of the academy’s rigorous 23-week training program.
“These new officers represent the continued growth and progress of our department,” said Officer in Charge Patrick Murray. “They’ve worked hard to earn their place in this profession, and now they will carry that dedication into the neighborhoods of Paterson. Our residents expect professionalism and accountability from their police officers, and these men and women are ready to meet that standard from day one.”
While in the academy, the recruits completed extensive training in criminal and motor vehicle law, first aid and CPR, opioid reversal response, use of force standards, de-escalation, domestic violence response, and communication tactics. The program also emphasized physical fitness, firearms proficiency, officer wellness, and working with individuals with special needs.
The newly sworn officers, 18 men and 4 women, will now enter the Paterson Police Department’s field training program, where they will gain hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced field training officers. As part of their initial assignment, they will also spend time on walking patrols to engage directly with community members and better understand neighborhood needs and priorities.
The addition of these new officers marks another important step in building a stronger and more responsive police department, continuing the department’s mission to serve Paterson with dedication, accountability, and compassion.
