Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and even good ol’ Frankie Valli - These are arguably some
of the top names of Garden State talent. But out of all their hits, none of these Jersey gents ever
sang about one of the most recognizable (& frustrating) transit hubs of our state: Secaucus
Junction. That’s where Roe Knows Best comes in. Roe Knows Best is the brainchild of NJ
singer-songwriter, Roe O’Brien and
Now Arriving...at Secaucus Junction is her debut full-length
record, which hit streaming services worldwide on Friday, November 7th, 2025.
While the nine tracks that make up
Now Arriving are a collection of songs that were
written at different junctures in Roe’s O’Brien’s life, they are undoubtedly her best material
to-date, though none more especially than the title track, “Secaucus Junction”. “Secaucus
Junction” tells the true-to-life tale of O’Brien coming home from a late night in New York City,
only to run into an ex-friend she had recently had a falling out with. As both wait for the same
connecting train home, the two make awkward conversation while Roe inwardly reflects on the
inciting incident of their separation and ultimately wishing she could return back to the New York
City bar from whence she came.
And of course, there’s also the recognition of the constant lateness of NJTransit when
O’Brien sings, “You know NJTransit. We both could wax poetic ‘til we get to where we’re goin’
and then it’s all copacetic”. About that O’Brien says, “In NJTransit lore, it’s kind of a running joke
how unreliable the trains can be, especially commuting in and out of New York City. It’s definitely
a commiseration point not only among friends, but also with fans who come to my shows. If you
live here, you know.” After performing “Secaucus Junction” live a few times, O’Brien was
surprised just how many people would come up to her afterwards, sharing identical experiences
to hers: That moment of waiting for a train at Secaucus Junction and running into someone they
hadn’t seen in years: An ex or an old friend or acquaintance. “It was such a validating
experience,” O’Brien says. “I wasn’t the only one experiencing these blasts from the past while
waiting at Secaucus”.
Now Arriving...at Secaucus Junction paints a picture of the lifelong New Jerseyan
establishing and confirming herself as a serious artist, worthy of conversation and comparison
among other legendary NJ greats. It doesn’t take much to realize that Roe’s lyrical gifts & vocal
prowess are unmatched and in a league of their own. If you’re a fan of pop-punk, indie rock, and
/ or the following bands and artists: Fountains of Wayne, Rilo Kiley, Motion City Soundtrack,
Paramore, Pinegrove, The Front Bottoms, & Yellowcard - This record is well-worth the listen and
might just make your list of top 2025 albums before the year is out.
