On September 30, at approximately 7:30 PM, ShopRite loss prevention reported that they
had a shoplifter in custody. Responding officers placed the suspect, John Avagliano,
Wyckoff NJ, age 69, under arrest and transported him into headquarters. He was released
on a summons and is scheduled to appear in court.
On October 12, at approximately 5:20 PM, ShopRite loss prevention reported that they
had a shoplifter in custody. The suspect, Daniel Dacey, Wyckoff NJ, age 58, was placed
under arrest and transported into headquarters. He was released on a summons and is
scheduled to appear in court.
On October 12, at approximately 11:50 AM, P.O. Kaitlyn Maglione observed a silver
Honda Accord being operated in an erratic manner on Franklin Avenue prior to entering a
parking lot. P.O. Maglione contacted the driver, Carol O’Brien, Midland Park NJ, age 55,
and detected signs of impairment. After conducting roadside field sobriety tests, the driver
was placed under arrest and transported into headquarters. She was charged with driving
under the influence, reckless driving, failure to keep right, and failure to park within a
marked stall. Her vehicle was impounded and held for 12 hours under John’s Law.
On October 16, at approximately midnight, P.O. Kenneth Marcoux was dispatched to a
one car vehicle crash on Newtown Road. Upon arriving, he observed a black Audi off the
roadway with significant damage. P.O. Marcoux detected signs of impairment from the
driver, Blair Hutkin, Wyckoff NJ, age 52. He was placed under arrest and transported
into headquarters. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving,
careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, and refusal to submit to breath testing. His
vehicle was impounded and held for 12 hours under John’s Law.
On October 18, at approximately 6:20 PM, officers responded to ShopRite on a reported
shoplifting in progress. The suspects, a 14-year-old Midland Park girl, and a 10-year-old
Midland Park boy, were observed by loss prevention concealing items in a backpack and
attempt to leave the store. The Juvenile Bureau further investigated and signed a juvenile
complaint against the 14-year-old charging her with one count of shoplifting. The boy was
not charged. The complaint was forwarded to the Bergen County Superior Court – Family
Part for disposition.
On October 27, at approximately 5:15 PM, officers were dispatched to ShopRite on a
reported shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention advised the officers that the suspect,
Timothy Culhane, Hawthorne NJ, age 69, was observed leaving the point of sale with
unpurchased items in the bottom of his shopping cart. The man was placed under arrest
and transported into headquarters. He was charged on a summons with shoplifting and
released pending a court date.
On October 26, at approximately 4:05 PM, officers were dispatched to ShopRite on a
reported shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention reported that the suspect, Renee Giordano,
North Haledon NJ, age 45, was observed passing the point of sale without purchasing the
items in her possession. She was placed under arrest and transported into headquarters.
She was charged on a summons with 4th degree shoplifting and released pending a court
date.
On November 4, at approximately 10:45 AM, officers to responded to a residence on a
report that damage was done to house. The investigation determined that a family member
caused damage to the home prior to leaving. The suspect, a 34-year-old Wyckoff man, was
located nearby and placed under arrest. He was charged on a summons with one count of
criminal mischief.
On November 5, at approximately 11:15 AM, officers responded to a local business on a
reported dispute in progress. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old
Hackensack NJ man. He was transported into headquarters and charged on a summons
with one count of simple assault. He was released pending a court date.
On November 5, at approximately 1:40 PM, officers were dispatched to ShopRite on a
reported shoplifting. Loss prevention advised that they observed the suspect, Linda
Huxley, Franklin Lakes NJ, age 52, concealing items as she walked through the store. She
then attempted to exit without paying for the items. The woman was placed under arrest
and charged on a summons with one count of shoplifting. She was released pending a court
date.
On November 15, at approximately 4:30 PM, officers were dispatched to the intersection of
Edgewood Avenue and Meadowbrook Road on a report that a vehicle struck a street sign.
Arriving officers observed that a Nissan pickup truck had left the roadway and struck the
sign. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Attilio Vlasica, Wyckoff NJ, age 74. He
was transported into headquarters and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless
driving, failure to keep right, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a
motor vehicle. His vehicle was impounded and held for 12 hours under John’s Law.
On November 17, at approximately 7:00 PM, officers were dispatched to ShopRite on a
report of shoplifting in the past. Loss prevention advised that earlier in the day, they
observed two suspects enter the store, one with a wheeled luggage bag and the other with a
reusable shopping bag. They both concealed baby formula, frozen shrimp, and steaks, and
left the store without paying for the items. They were seen leaving in a white Chrysler 300.
On November 21, P.O. Kenneth Marcoux was able to identify one of the suspects, John
Forfia, Mahwah NJ, age 53. A warrant has been issued for his arrest charging him with 3rd
degree shoplifting.
On November 25, at approximately 11:00 AM, a Midland Park Officer observed a silver
Mitsubishi travelling on Godwin Avenue. The driver and vehicle matched the description
provided earlier in the day of a shoplifting suspect at the Wyckoff ShopRite. The driver,
Paul Tur, Midland Park NJ, age 68, was placed under arrest by Wyckoff Officers and
transported into headquarters. He was charged on a summons with one count of
shoplifting and released pending a court date.
On November 26, at approximately 8:15 AM, officers were dispatched to ShopRite on a
reported shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention reported that they observed the suspect,
Derrick Rodriguez, Hawthorne NJ, age 44, place items in reusable bags and attempt to exit
the store without making payment. The man was placed under arrest and transported into
headquarters. He was charged on a complaint summons with one count of shoplifting and
released pending a court date.
On November 27, at approximately 8:30 PM, P.O. Joseph Benanti was dispatched to
Wyckoff Avenue and Meer Avenue on a reported disabled vehicle. Upon arriving, P.O.
Benanti noted that the vehicle was parked on the sidewalk and appeared to have fresh
damage to the right front. The driver appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel. While
speaking with the driver, an odor of alcoholic beverages was emanating from the interior of
the vehicle. The investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver, Clifton McCloud,
Hackensack NJ, age 59. He was transported into headquarters and charged with driving
while intoxicated, reckless driving, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a
motor vehicle, and refusal to submit to breath testing. His vehicle was impounded and held
for 12 hours under John’s Law.
On November 27, an act of criminal mischief was committed against ShopRite, 430
Greenwood Avenue. An individual used a permanent marker to write a vulgar message on
the glass entry door expressing anger over the store being closed on Thanksgiving. Det.
Sgt. Michael DeMaio investigated and identified the actor as Jason Webb, Midland Park
NJ, age 44. He was issued a complaint summons charging him with one count of criminal
mischief.
On November 30, at approximately 3:45 PM, officers were dispatched to ShopRite on a
report of a shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention advised the officers that the suspect,
Mary Bernhart, Mahwah NJ, age 67, had concealed items in a reusable shopping bag and
attempted to exit the store without paying. The suspect was placed under arrest and issued
a complaint summons charging her with one count of shoplifting. She was released
pending a court date.
On December 3, a resident of Clinton Avenue reported that their black Kia was stolen from
the driveway during the overnight hours. Video surveillance provided by the homeowners
showed two actors enter the Kia at approximately 1:38 AM and drive away. It was
reported that the vehicle was left unlocked, with the keys inside. The Kia was later used in
a burglary in Kearny NJ and was pursued by that agency. The pursuit was terminated due
to safety concerns and the vehicle was recovered on December 4 in Irvington NJ.
On December 3, a resident of Carlton Road reported that their vehicle was entered
overnight. Video surveillance provided by the homeowners revealed that at approximately
1:20 AM, two actors entered the driveway and opened the unlocked Porsche. After
rummaging around the vehicle, they left the area. The homeowner does not believe
anything was taken from the vehicle.
On December 4, at approximately 3:15 PM, a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle at
the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Monroe Avenue. The preliminary on scene
investigation revealed the driver, a 66-year-old Wyckoff man, was travelling west on
Franklin Avenue, turning left onto Monroe Avenue. The pedestrian, a 30-year-old
Wyckoff man was crossing Monroe Avenue eastbound and was struck in the crosswalk.
The pedestrian was transported by the Wyckoff Ambulance Corps to a local hospital for
further evaluation. The driver was issued a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian in
a crosswalk.
On December 6, at approximately 5:45 PM, officers responded to ShopRite on a report of a
shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention reported that Joshua Levine, Waldwick NJ, age 38,
was observed attempting to exit the store without paying for merchandise. He was placed
under arrest and charged on a summons with one count of shoplifting and released
pending a court date.
On December 7, at approximately 7:30 PM, a resident of Sturbridge Road reported the
theft of packages delivered to their front door. The suspect was described as male wearing
a red hoodie with a gold emblem on the front, gray pants, and white sneakers. Anyone
having additional information on this suspect, please contact the detective bureau at 201-
891-2121.
On December 7, at approximately 7:40 PM, a resident of Patton Place reported the theft of
packages delivered to their front door. The physical description of the actor matched that
of the suspect on Sturbridge Road. In both instances, no vehicles were seen in the area.
On December 8, at approximately 5:50 PM, officers responded to ShopRite on a report of a
shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention reported that Wayne Duglin, Upper Saddle River
NJ, age 67, was observed attempting to exit the store without paying for merchandise. He
was placed under arrest and charged with one count of shoplifting and released.
The Wyckoff Police Department would like to point out that the above individuals have been
charged with a crime, offense, and or motor vehicle violations. However, they are presumed
innocent unless and until they are found guilty in a court of law.
We cannot stress enough the value of our residents remaining alert in their neighborhoods
and reporting anything unusual or suspicious to the police, “Hear It! See It!, Report It!”
We encourage all residents to report ANY suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity occurring at
any time to the Wyckoff Police – County Communications Center at 201-891-2121 or 911 in
the event of an emergency.
