First Confirmed Case of Coronavirus in Secaucus

Posted Thu, Mar 19, 2020, By Staff Writer
Although no additional information has been released at this time, the first confirmed case of the Novel Coronavirus in Secaucus has just been reported by town officials. Furthermore, as of earlier this week, at least four Secaucus residents have been self-quarantined due to suspicion that they have already contracted the virus.

It is important to note that this reported case should not cause any immediate alarm. Realistically, with the wide spread outbreak of this pandemic, it is likely that most Secaucus residents have already been exposed to the virus in one form or another. This could be in the form of human contact or from common surfaces such as door knobs at local businesses. So just because a local case has been confirmed, this doesn't mean that COVID-19 has now all of the sudden breached Secaucus. Chances are, the virus has been present in Secaucus for weeks already. But as long as everyone follows common sense precautions such as washing your hands frequently and staying away from those who have symptoms, most residents should not be affected. Also, keep in mind that even if a person contracts the virus, it is 80% likely that he/she will only experience mild flu-like symptoms and make a full recovery. It is only with the elderly or those with a compromised immune system that should take extra precautions to limit any exposure.

Further information will be reported here as it becomes available.
