Sentencing held on the Fourth Anniversary of Fatal Drunk Driving Crash
February 6, 2026 - Today, on the fourth anniversary of the tragic drunk driving crash that claimed the life of Tyler
Balog, and caused severe, life altering, injuries to Kimberlie Terry, the court sentenced John C. Nunn for his role
in the incident.
At today’s sentencing in Warren County Superior Court, the Honorable H. Matthew Curry, J.S.C. imposed the
maximum sentence allowed under state law. Nunn was sentenced to New Jersey State Prison for thirty (30) years
on the charge of Aggravated Manslaughter and ten (10) years for Aggravated Assault. Both sentences must be
served consecutively. Prior to Nunn being eligible for parole he must serve 85% of the sentence. The remaining
criminal charges were merged. In addition to mandatory fines, Nunn’s driving privileges in New Jersey have been
revoked for life.
Prosecutor Cardone emphasizes, “This sentence sends a clear message: drinking and driving with reckless
disregard for human life will not be tolerated here in Warren County. Our office, together with law enforcement
partners, will investigate and prosecute these cases to the fullest extent of the law. We thank the first responders
who acted quickly and professionally in the aftermath. The families in this case will continue to live with the
consequences of this tragedy every day. We stand with the victims, their families, and first responders as they
continue to face the lasting impact of this case.”
On December 12, 2025, a Warren County jury found Nunn guilty of:
- One (1) count Aggravated Manslaughter, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-4A(1), a crime of the
First Degree;
- One (1) count Death by Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-5A, a crime of the Second Degree;
- One (1) count Aggravated Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), a crime of the Second
Degree;
- Two (2) counts Assault by Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a crime of the Third
Degree.
By way of background, on February 6, 2022, the Washington Township Police responded to the area of State
Highway 57 and Butler Park Road for a motor vehicle accident involving a pickup truck that had crashed into the
second story of a residence. The investigation determined that John C. Nunn had been operating the vehicle while
intoxicated. As a result of the crash, Tyler Balog, who was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Nunn, tragically lost
his life, and Kimberlie Terry, who was asleep in her residence, sustained serious injuries.
The State was represented by Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Brotzman and Assistant Prosecutor Joseph
Dellera at trial. Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Brotzman, Assistant Prosecutor Dellera along with Detective
Lisa Salerno are commended for their outstanding work in prosecuting this case. We would also like to thank the
Washington Township Police Department, the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and New
Jersey State Police Laboratory for their investigation efforts in this case.
