On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Mayor Carol Jean Doyle and the Town Council honored Kearny residents and businesses who provided critical support during the December 2025 First Ward fire that displaced several families.
When residents were evacuated from their homes, Closer to God Evangelical Presbyterian Church immediately canceled its services and luncheon to provide emergency shelter and comfort to displaced neighbors. Local businesses, including Five Below Lucky Corner, remained open late to support first responders and residents seeking assistance.
Mayor Doyle and Council President Marytrine De Castro expressed deep gratitude to the honorees and praised the professionalism and compassion of Police, Fire, and EMS personnel who worked tirelessly to protect the community throughout the crisis.
