Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.
Good news, the installation of the new traffic signal at the intersection of Dean Drive and East Clinton Avenue has been completed and the traffic signal is now operational. Please be cautious and patient as we all get used to the new rhythm of passing through that intersection.
Families with children ages 3 to 7 are invited to settle in for a nature-themed story and a surprise visit from one of the Nature Center’s Animal Ambassadors at Nature Story Time on Saturday, February 21 from 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Then on Sunday from 10:00 am to Noon, outdoor enthusiasts of all ages can join us for the bi-monthly volunteer group: Forest Defenders. You’ll learn how to identify invasive species and work side-by-side with our expert Land Manager using safe and effective removal techniques. Another hands-on option, learn how sap becomes syrup and discover which local trees can be tapped at Sap to Syrup, with sessions from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:0pm to 2:00 pm. The Senior Center is introducing two new classes, and both are limited engagements. Join in for Rise and Shine Yoga on Monday mornings and Club in Motion on Wednesday mornings. The Highwood Ensemble’s oboist, Bob LeClair, will perform with the Fides String Quartet at the Presbyterian Church. Works including a British/Irish folk song, a Canadian work influenced by the composer’s Syrian heritage and another‘s combination of Viennese and Czech influences. Both composers were working oboists before turning to composition! Saturday, February 28 at 7:00 pm, free of charge.
Join in for some nonsensical fun at the Mad Hatter Tea Party at the Presbyterian Church. Come dressed in your best costume attire (nothing too scary, please)! The Kaplen JCC Running Program is designed for kids ages 8 to 14 and adults 18+ to discover the joy of running in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Whether participants are brand new to running or looking to build skills and confidence, this program focuses on developing a love for movement while improving endurance, strength, and overall fitness. All sessions are led by experienced Race Faster coaches, who create fun, engaging, and age-appropriate workouts for every level.
