Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.
This weekend, the Nature Center kicks off March with plenty to do starting with Crafty Critters at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 7. On Sunday March 8 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, take a walk that makes a difference with the Annual Boundary Walk, a hands-on stewardship event that helps safeguard the health and integrity of our preserve. At 10:30 am and 1:00 pm, Sap to Syrup maple sugaring sessions are available for registration, don’t miss one of the last weekends of the season! Join in for some nonsensical fun at the Mad Hatter Tea Party at the Presbyterian Church. Come dressed in your best costume attire (nothing too scary, please)! Ages three years old through fourth grade accompanied by an adult. Saturday, March 7 at 3:00 pm, $5 per child (payable at the door).
The Tenafly Library Friends are presenting two exciting events next week. On Monday, March 9 at 10:30 am at the library, they will be hosting Scott Pleasants, Teaneck's Poet Laureate, as part of their author series. Mr. Pleasants is a published poet, a Pushcart Prize nominee, and a literary contest winner. He is sure to be interesting! Then on Tuesday, March 10 at 1:00 pm, the Friends will be showing the movie, Vermiglio. This winner of the Silver Lion at the 2024 Venice Film festival is a historical drama set in the Italian Alps during the final days of WWII. It has been praised for it's outstanding cinematography. Free of charge and no registration is needed.

ACEing Autism at the Kaplen JCC kicks off its Spring season on Sunday, March 22. ACEing helps children benefit from social connections, fitness and fun through tennis. If you are interested in signing up your child ages 5-18 to participate, or if high school students and adults want to volunteer, please email kaplenjcc@ACEingAutism.org . No tennis experience required.
The Senior Center is organizing a trip to experience Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway! Wednesday, July 8, enjoy a day in NYC and catch the show at 2:00 pm. Tickets are priced at $180.00. The Kaplen JCC Running Program is designed for kids ages 8 to 14 and adults 18+ to discover the joy of running in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Whether participants are brand new to running or looking to build skills and confidence, this program focuses on developing a love for movement while improving endurance, strength, and overall fitness. All sessions are led by experienced Race Faster coaches, who create fun, engaging, and age-appropriate workouts for every level. Experience a piano recital by Victoria Schwartzman, performing on a Mason and Hamlin grand piano Beethoven, Chopin, and Prokofiev classics. March 15 at 4:30 pm, at the Presbyterian Church. Free admission, though donations supporting the arts outreach program are welcome.
Then, Carriage House concerts presents “Roots“, a String Quartet, performing Armenian folk songs by Komitas, Scandinavian selections, and Dvořák, March 22 at 5:00 pm. Presbyterian Church Chapel. Admission $30 per person, children under 18 free, tickets available through Eventbrite or at the door.
